Brick Walls

Since moving to New Hampshire, I’ve had the pleasure of living somewhere with exposed brick walls.  This was and is pretty cool, but the one complaint I’ve had is all the debris that seems to fall from them.  For a while I’ve been thinking I should attach the hose to the vacuum cleaner and try to clean them up a bit, but haven’t done it.  This week Liz took some initiative (aka avoiding homework) and worked on the living room a bit.  Today I worked on what I had access to in my offce/old elevator shaft/the Lebowski Podcast Headquarters.  You’d be surprised how much dust and stuff is just sitting there on the brick ledges.

Is this a common thing for interior brick walls?

Timmy bread

For those of you who knew the late, great PJ’s from Warren, Indiana, I’m sure you know what this title means.  It was a sad day when we showed up and the building was empty.  So to commemorate summer and all things PJ, I made some Timmy Bread today with a few special modifications.  I sliced up some onions and olives and added them to the mix.

While cooking and eating this wonderful treat we had yet another storm roll through.  This one was a little intense with lots of high wind, thundering and lightening.  Power flickered a few times, but luckily it never went off.  For some reason it reminded me of that one episode of McGee and Me.  If I ever see that again I’ll probably think it’s super lame.

Hawaiian Shirt Day

I stopped by work today to fill out some tax forms and get a parking pass.  Work doesn’t start until Tuesday for me, but I like to try and take care of things beforehand.  Well, it was Friday and it was also casual day.  April started explaining to me how CIS has traditions; for example, Friday is Hawaiian Shirt Day - so, if you want to, you can go ahead and wear a Hawaiian shirt and jeans.

It was hard not to bust out laughing or follow up my dress code question with one about Swingline staplers binding up less than their Boston counterparts.

We made it

We’re in New Hampshire now and everyone seems to be quite friendly.  I was a little apprehensive about moving to the East Coast at first, but New Hampshire seems to be a good fit so far.  I even saw some guy with “THEDUDE” on his license plate yesterday right after we crossed the state line.

One thing I’m glad I did was to get our internet hooked up on moving day.  That is allowing me to post this.  It also makes a lot of things much easier like finding directions, contacting people, and finding phone numbers.

They town we’re in isn’t too big, but isn’t too small at the same time.  There are plenty of local and chain businesses, but there is also a very down to earth feel about everything.  I already have a favorite neighbor that lives upstairs.  We’ve seen him outside probably 10x already.  He’s a smoker and the building is non-smoking so he makes a lot of trips outside.  We found a good pizza place down the street already, and we’re also about 2 blocks from Maine if we feel like crossing the border.

Our apartment building is an old textile mill so our windows overlook a small river out back.  I guess the word “small” isn’t very descriptive, but if you grew up next to the Mississippi river close to its widest point, the little trickle out back can only be described as small.

So far we’ve had a lot of people say they’re going to visit us.  I think they’ll enjoy doing that if they were serious.

Not responsible

I tell people not to tickle me because 1) I don’t like it and 2) I sometimes flail about and physically damage people.  Some people don’t believe me and do it anyways.  One of these people, who will remain unnamed, kind of got thrown into a bookshelf last night.  Hopefully they learned a lesson.

Episode 3 - Re-recorded

Last night a few of us got together and re-did episode three.  We think we had some cell phone interference last time.  Just gave the files a quick listen and it all sounds great.  I’ll get on the editing ASAP and we’ll have that out for you as soon as it’s done.

Episode 3 - Recorded

Some of us got together and recorded Episode 3 over the weekend.  We were missing Gunner and Moser, and we also had to switch gears from our original plan.  The original plan was to have some guest speakers come in and talk about feminism as we explored the women in the film and Maude specifically.  Because of my apartment flooding, health problems and moving, we had to push things back a bit and not everybody was able to show up.  So the plan for Episode 4 is to pick up with Maude and feminism.  We’ll let you know when it’s up on iTunes.

Episode 2 Update

I was done with work before lunch yesterday so I decided to get the editing done on the podcast. I think I spent about 4-5 hours on it. Most of that is spent just listening to what it sounds like. I spent some time trying to think of a good song to put in there. My first thought was Dangling Feet by DeVotchka, then I messed around with a lot of other things and ended up where I had started. I even pulled a couple of audio clips from the movie.

Overall, I think this is much better than the last one. I’m going to submit it to iTunes this afternoon so be ready for another installment soon.

Episode 2

Tonight we finally were all able to get together and record episode two of the Lebowski Podcast.  We were all set to record last week, but we got hit with that blizzard and everything got set back.  I think tonight went 100 times better than our last recording.  We all gelled, Bleu coming in wasn’t weird at all, the conversation never really faltered, we had more content and fan mail to discuss, etc.  One exception would be that the computer gave us some grief and we lost at least 15 minutes at the end.  When we found this out, we re-did it in about 5 min.  Then realized it still wasn’t working.  After switching the drive we were saving to we finally got our ending finished up in even less time.  It kinda sucks at the moment, but maybe it was for the best.  It was probably getting a little long anyways.

I’m not sure hot long it will be til it’s up on iTunes.  I’ve been working a lot this week so I’ll definitely have some free time on Friday during the day.
