Some of you know my love for meat and cheese. Whenever I go to a burger place, I usually look for the biggest and baddest hunk of cow slathered with cheese and stuck between two pieces of bread on the menu. As you can imagine, I’ve had my fair share of Baconators at Wendy’s.
On Sunday we were there with some friends and my buddy Nate was considering one. I informed him I thought they were kind of anti-climatic. You’re expecting this hot, juicy burger and what I’ve usually gotten is this pathetic thing you can hardly see because it’s all encompassed by the bun. I also happened to say this in line, in front of all the Wendy’s employees. Well, Nate got the Baconator anyways and it was the biggest, best looking Baconator I’ve ever seen in my life. Maybe I just need to find somebody to do the same for me.
So the updater didn’t work and I was having problems figuring out what went wrong. Then Soulman showed up and helped me over his lunch hour. What happened is a couple files were somehow truncated and no new files seem to have been copied. So my blog works now and was never really upgraded. Maybe I’ll do a manual upgrade later today if I have time.
My buddy Solomon, from the Education department, and I head over to the local Taco Bell every once in a while to grab some lunch. I’ve known Solomon goes over there a lot more often than I do, but I found out today just how often. Today was my turn for buying and as we’re ordering I saw a manager/supervisor in the back making orders to help out during the lunch rush. She saw Solomon and he waved. She then started yelling something to the cashier. I didn’t understand what she said, but it ended in me getting a 10% discount.
Smitty has had an idea for a while to start up a blog to try and pool our collective knowledge about blogging. It’s finally happened. Smitty, Tara, Liz and myself are all contributors to BloggingAmigos.net. We’re going to be mainly talking about self-hosted Wordpress sites to begin with. The plan is to eventually start talking about other blogging tools as well.
The other night I met Rajeev at the theater to see one of the best Westerns, in my opinion, in a very long time. I know that Unforgiven received a lot of glory and even an Oscar, but I think I like this most recent re-make just a tiny bit better. Rajeev hadn’t seen it before and I was definitely up for a second viewing. It was also nice just to do something with a guy for a change. Almost all of my friends have moved away, that’s what happens when you immediately start working at the school you graduated from, and I’ve made new ones but it’s not like we hang out often. Usually I end up hanging out with Liz’s friends or doing the “couple” thing. I think we’re planning to see some more “man” movies in the future. The kinds we want to see but our better-halves don’t want to.
I’ve been realizing recently that even though I can juggle multiple side-projects at once, I can only really pour lots of time and energy into one. For a while now, that one has been my podcast. So that means I post on here about once a week and I put up movie reviews on my other blog a couple times a month and I haven’t touched my Spanish blog in months.
This weekend marks the eighth annual Oktoberfest with Schnaps, Soulman, BHouse, Gavette, Barn, Butros, Whipple, Ed, Stavros, etc. I sadly missed number 6 because my lungs weren’t working, but I’m excited for number eight. Last year was dubbed Augbachtobirthdayfest or something along those lines. It happened to be in August and fell on mine and Cameron’s birthday. This year Soulman’s calling it Ochtoberfest. I’m definitely looking forward to some new catch phrases. Something emerges every year but not many have stuck around. I think my most famous phrase has been “PARTY VEHICLE!!!!!!!!!!!” which is what you call a vehicle you could possible have a party in. There’ll also be some Whipple-ball, videos games, TV watching and lots of hilarity. And who can forget topping everything off with a trip to Schmitt’s Sausage Haus in quest for the ever elusive “meat headache”? Hopefully we won’t have a repeat of number 5 where the neighbors called the cops. Funny thing is their party was way louder than us listening to music on the porch. People are weird sometimes.
That’s right folks. Neville returned from China. No more teaching English and film…at least for a little while. Neville’s on his way back to Fuller, but found some time to stop by and say hi to us on Sunday. I even got him to be on Episode 9 of my podcast and it turned out to be really good. I’m not done editing, but hopefully I’ll have it done and ready to go soon.
I’ve seen probably 4 or 5 movies I need to write reviews for as well as typing something up about I’m a Lebowski, You’re a Lebowski. Work has been kinda crazy after coming back from vacation. Hopefully some of that will taper off too.
Oh, and today also happens to be Tuesday which means SUBWAY day. Gunner and I will be picking up where we left off in May. I haven’t had a Chicken Bacon Ranch in quite some time.
I saw Seltzer today.
To most of you that means nothing, but to a select few that might just mean a lot. Seltzer was a buddy of mine back in college from Minnesota. He was a fellow comp sci major and like me, was impervious to cold weather. I wore shorts in the winter and he didn’t wear a coat.
I don’t remember exactly when everything started, but he had this lump on his back/neck that we used to joke was a tumor and kept telling him to get checked out. When he finally did, it turned out it was a tumor. He eventually left school, tried to fight the cancer with natural means for a long while and then eventually gave in and zapped it with radiation and chemo.
Seltzer’s doing great now. We used to really worry about him because we wouldn’t hear anything from or about him for months and months at a time. Sometimes even more than a year would pass and we would all wonder if something happened. You know, like what if he died or something. It’s not like contacting the guys from Centre Morris would be a high priority.
To say all that, Seltzer’s on his way out East to check out some grad schools. It was good to see him. Glad to know he’s back on his feet again and I wish him all the best.

[15:48] Me: i wish i had a kegerator with ale8 in it
Last weekend was our super wedding weekend with a total of three we were wanting to attend. Unfortunately, we only made it to two of them; one being in Muncie and the other simultaneously in Chicago. The first wedding was some friends of ours from church - Sera and Elliot. That was fun. During the reception Matt, Weber and I discussed some Guitar Hero strategy.
Wedding number 2 was long-awaited and much-anticipated being it was the one and only Bendog and Jodi. Bendog was one of the many Ben’s involved in my wedding as well as another illustrious member of the fabled SammyII crowd. It was a little hot outside during the actual ceremony, but we were soon ushered inside to the sweet embrace of central air.
There were so many old Centre Morris and Taylor people there, it was like a little reunion. We ended up sitting at a table with JoeZinga, Bane, Cheeks and Elaine and Jim. I had never met Jim before. I was thoroughly impressed. I wouldn’t say I’ve never liked Elaine’s previous boyfriends, however, I’ve never been really impressed with any of them. You might ask why I even care. I don’t really have an answer to that one. After knowing Elaine through only her orthodontic pictures posted to Ben’s (her brother) door for two years, I just kinda felt like I knew her…..at least by smile with her cheeks stretched out by those plastic things. Anyways, Ben and I also lived together for a while and for some reason I’ve just always felt Elaine was like a little sister. I’m glad she’s found someone like Jim.
We actually had to cut out before the party was over because I had a 5+ hour drive home and had to get up for work the next morning. We picked up a soundtrack made by Bendog on the way out and I have to say it’s quite stellar. I’m excited for these two. Bendog’s been an amazing friend over the past 6 years or so. It’s good to see him so happy and excited. Now I just need to find some way to get him as a guest speaker on my podcast.
