Second Life Presentation

We got access to Second Life up and running for the presentation and it went pretty well.  We had a lot of good discussion amongst the staff and faculty present.  We also got some pretty awesome box lunches and I was able to bring back an extra for a snack I’m currently enjoying.

It pays to know people

My buddy Solomon, from the Education department, and I head over to the local Taco Bell every once in a while to grab some lunch. I’ve known Solomon goes over there a lot more often than I do, but I found out today just how often. Today was my turn for buying and as we’re ordering I saw a manager/supervisor in the back making orders to help out during the lunch rush. She saw Solomon and he waved. She then started yelling something to the cashier. I didn’t understand what she said, but it ended in me getting a 10% discount.

Food and Music

Yesterday we all went to see Over the Rhine’s Christmas show in Cincinnati. Liz and I rode with Karen, Rajeev and Arya. This time the car didn’t break down on the way which was a definite bonus. We then met up with Soulman and January at a local Indian restaurant and got some spicy food beforehand. Afterwards we found Phil and went to the show. I don’t know if it was where we were sitting, but I thought the sound was poor compared to a couple weeks ago when Liz and I saw them in Bloomington. Karin’s mic was way too hot and you could barely hear Linford. None of the instruments seemed to be mixed well, and the sound was almost overpoweringly loud. It reminded me of some of the things I had to deal with when running sound back in the day.

It was a fun time though. In the theater my chair was kinda broken. I think it wasn’t bolted to the floor cause I constantly felt like I was balancing on one leg of a chair. I hope I wasn’t whacking the guy’s legs behind me. In the parking garage Liz and I had a sword-fight and before we left, we witnessed somebody drive over a barrier thing and then not know how to get over it. I went over and lent a hand. Luckily they were in a Blazer and not a Metro.

On the way back Rajeev and I were in the front and got to talk about all sorts of manly things like work and computer-related topics. We even introduced him to Hardees on the way back and he’s a fan. I ordered a #4 - 1/3lb Thickburger with bacon. What I received was a 2/3 lb Thickburger with bacon. That’s not even on the menu folks. You can get a 2/3lb Thickburger, but it doesn’t come with bacon. You can also order a Monster Thickburger, but that doesn’t come with lettuce, tomatoes and onions. I’m not sure what happened, but I was delighted in my free meat upgrade. JRod would have been proud.

Well, now it’s back to the grind. I think Liz and I are going to try and get some things cleaned up around here and also go say hi to Lana at some point.

Soulman’s Married

Toll, now Soulman….looks like I’m up next. Soulman’s wedding was stellar as to be expected. We all showed up Friday and dressed up as pirates for the rehearsal. I was able to find Soulman a cane-sword with an eagle head on it. I was wanting to get him one with a fist, but I wasn’t able to find one of those in time. The wedding was outside at a bed and breakfast. I got to see a lot of guys. It was a pretty good time. For being in the wedding Soulman gave us steins with our names engraved on them. They’re pretty awesome looking. I brought mine to work for my afternoon Mt Dew. Unfortunately, Soulman finally figured out what his “black-lung” cough was all about. Turns out he has the pneumonia. Nasty stuff. Hopefully he can kick it soon.

Bye Bye Norton

I’ve been a staunch supporter of Norton Anti-Virus since 1997 I believe. It’s a good program. When I first started utilizing their services I didn’t have to pay money every single year to keep getting virus definition updates. A lot of times I had to re-build my computer and that would reset my 1 year subscription anyways. Well, that time came up once again and now they want $39.99 for a one year subscription and upgrade. Screw that. I am now the proud user of AVG. TJ here at work is always talking about how great it is so I decided to give it a try. One big bonus feature is that it’s free for personal/home use. That’s right folks. Free anti-virus software. Just because they’re cool and care about you.

How to get free food

Call up a caterer and tell them you’d like to meet with them and discuss your upcoming wedding reception. They’ll give you free food and then talk to you. You can take all the information and then tell them you’ll think about it and get back to them. Now all you have to do is find another caterer and repeat.

Suella’s here

One of my very good family friends is here this week for a conference. Suella used to watch me a lot as a kid back in Phoenix and was sort of my other mom back in the day. Turns out her librarian conference is at IWU so we got to hang out. Suella and I met Liz at Johnny Carino’s last night for some food and great conversation. It was a good night.

Free Hollywood Card

Last night Liz and I went down to Indy to visit our most favoritist movie theater - Hollywood Bar and Filmworks. The plan was to go see American Haunting. It was working out pretty well. We downed our nachos and the burgers were going down pretty well. But then comes the sad part…the projector broke. The bulb was seriously overheating and the projector wouldn’t come back on. I have a hunch I probably could have helped them fix it, but I just kept my mouth shut. We ended up getting our tickets refunded and they gave me a Hollywood Card. This card allows me and up to 3 friends free admission to any showing Sunday through Thursday for 1 year. That’s right folks. I said ONE YEAR. You can buy one of these for yourself at the cost of $40, or, you can be like me and be lucky enough to only catch 40min or so of a movie.

Good Weekend

Friday night I hit up some art shows and then did a Taco Bell/Pac-a-sac run. Saturday I tried to find the public shooting area south of Muncie. I was able to find it, but it was gated and locked. So much for an open, public area. My faith in Indiana was restored however when I got some free complementary bread sticks with cheese sauce at Pizza Hut. Today I’ve been able to chill, filled out some retirement fund paperwork stuff and got a letter written.
