Cheese

Last week while we were back in Iowa for Christmas and my grandparents’ 50th Anniversary, we happened to make a stop in an Amish town at a cheese store.  Rumor was they had fresh curds that they made on site.  I was a little overjoyed until I saw prices in their store.  Highway robbery my friend - and it really was cause they were located on a highway.  I ended up buying curds anyways cause it’s not like I can resist.

On this past Saturday Liz and I then made a trip to White Feather Farms in hopes of finding some mascarpone to use for some pasta.  It’s a very creamy Italian cheese used for sauces.  No luck.  There did happen to be a girl there that Liz knew from subbing.  She’s a freshman in high school.  She was obviously very knew and didn’t really know what was going on.  Almost everything we asked for they were “out of”.  She then brought out some super gross and moldy cheese and said they’d sell it for a discount.  If she had opened the bag, I probably would have lost my breakfast.  I missed the old cheese-girls.  They know their stuff.  Hopefully they’ll be around next time we head in.

Cheese

Saturday was a good day for various reasons. One being that I made it over to White Feather Farms for some cheese. I love buying cheese there. Saturday was a light-purchase day where I only spent $22.12. Most trips find me spending twice that. This trip I picked up…

2lbs - McAdams cheddar
2lbs - Farmer’s Cheese
1 bag Bonbel Babybels
2 - 1/2lb Gouda discs
1/2 - Mellow Cheddar

Liz had never had Farmer’s Cheese before. It’s pretty awesome and pretty cheap. I think it’s about 2.90/lb and tastes amazing. I had also never had the Bonbels (Yellow wrapper) before, at least recently. They taste pretty close to the originals (Red wrapper). As for the McAdams, I couldn’t walk out of there without any. This is the most amazing tasting cheddar I’ve ever had for the price. It rings up at about $3.30/lb I believe. Usually if you want a good cheddar you’re going to be paying $7-12 per pound. The mellow cheddar is from England. I think it’s called Top Hat Cheddar or something. It sounded interesting so I figured I should give it a whirl.

Cheese run

After a long absence from White Feather Farms, I finally made it back this weekend. I even got myself a little loss in the process of getting there. The bright side is that I now know downtown Muncie a little better, and I have some good cheese in my fridge.

They have an amazing new cheddar called McAdams that’s under $3/lb. I’ve never tasted something that good and that cheap. Had to pick some up. I’m also trying out fontinella. It’s a grating cheese I’ve never used before. Other than that, I picked up some muenster, colby jack and remembered to get some babybels.

Hipatitis: Terminally Cool

Please don’t congratulate me for that one. I saw it on a sign in Muncie this morning on my way back from White Feather Farms with Crack. Besides a new play on words I was able to score some parmesan, havarti, muenster. We also swung by a farmer’s market at minnetrista (not sure if i spelled that right). Apparently it’s another extension of the massive Ball wealth where they have gardens and stuff. I ended up not getting anything cause I have no idea if I’ll be able to use it up anytime soon. Good morning if you ask me. Yesterday I was able to get everything moved into my apartment. Now I just have to situate everything and unpack boxes, take stock of what food I actually have and get some things up on the walls. Swanny is supposed to move in today as well so hopefully we’ll have stuff setup very soon.

Well, back to the coal mine for me. Gotta get stuff unpacked.

Half Days

Because of being able to count all of my time from Tuesday, I was able to jet at noon yesterday from work. Most of my morning was spent listening to a product rep from a company that makes remote controls/switches for rooms. They have stuff that’ll control lights, thermostat, screens, projectors, VCR’s, DVD’s, etc. Pretty much anything you want it to. It can be controlled from touch screens, a button control, web access, .exe apps, etc. They’re pretty nifty but we really don’t need them here.

Anyways, so after work I went down to Indy with Liz to help her look for furniture and then afterwards we went to this place called Hollywood Bar and Filmworks. It was a pretty sweet place. They basically have cheap tickets and then you’re expected to order something off the menu. It isn’t a normal kind of theater, you get these nice seats to sit in and you have a counter top thing in front of you to eat on. You get a server that comes by to get you refills, bring you food, etc. I really enjoyed it and would definitely go back some time. They also were advertising annual passes where you pay $40 and can come as many times as you want between Sunday and Thursday with up to 4 people. That’s what I call a deal. You’d still have to buy some food but if you live close by and are going to go more than 10 times in a year it’s really worth it.

Looks like I’ll finally be able to get completely moved. I now have keys to the place and can start moving in whenever. I’m thinking this time won’t take nearly as much time since I just have to carry stuff instead of packing and carrying. Oh, and Saturday I’ll be heading to White Feather Farms with Crack. Hopefully I can find some good stuff to buy.

…I’ve also decided it’s time for a picture change…any ideas?
