Indie music

I am by no means a music expert, but I try to stay with the times.  Luckily I have some key friends that tend to stay on top of things and fill me in.  If you’re interested in being in the know I suggest you do two things.

1.) Check out Dallas does Indie.  It’s a podcast that plays full length songs for you to check out.

2.) Start using eMusic.com.  They have different subscription levels, the mp3s are DRM free and you can re-download as much as you want.  It’s a great service.

Broken Interwebs?

We’re trying to stream the inauguration stuff here today at work.  There’s some major lag going on.  All I can think of is the Southpark movie when the general was trying to pull up the map and got a blue screen of death.

Where’s Al Gore?!  Get him in here!  Why doesn’t the internet work?

Burger King

After running some errands this morning and before heading to the grocery store, I stopped by Burger King for some lunch.  I had a couple of Whoppers and they tasted amazingly awesome.  Now I’m by no means a Whopper Virgin, I just haven’t partaken since sometime before May or June of last year.  I highly suggest you go get yourself a Whopper snack if you’ve been thinking of it recently.

Bailout Idiocracy

So the US government has been in the process of bailing out some key industries and infrastructures in recent months.  Banks and financial institutions kinda make sense to me.  The auto industry seemed a little sketchy seeing they really just need to rethink their business model.  I know this is easy for me to say since I am not employed by the auto industry and don’t have any close friends or family employed as well.  What really takes the cake though is porn mogul Larry Flynt and Girl’s Gone Wild Creator Joe Francis are asking Congress for a slice of the pie.

According to this article (http://www.nydailynews.com/money/2009/01/07/2009-01-07_porn_kings_larry_flint_and_joe_francis_g.html) DVD sales have gone down 20% and they feel they could use a helping hand.  Are they serious?  Can they really say this with straight look on their faces?  I’m sure some in this country consider porn to be a “vital industry” but I really hope nobody on Capitol Hill is dumb enough to agree.

Christmas Adventures

So Liz and I went back to Indiana for a little Christmas action/participate in Phil’s wedding.  As usual, we encountered a lot of interesting situations.  On our way out of NH, everytime someone inquired of our plans or checked out IDs we heard, “you came all the way to Maine to catch a plane?!?!”  I’m sorry folks, but going all the way to Maine doesn’t seem like that big of a deal.  I’ve driven to Chicago, Detroit, Dayton, Indianapolis, etc for airports before when I was living in Indiana.  We’re talking hours here.  That’d be like crossing several states out in New England.  The best part though was on our way home a security guy informed us that we can’t be from New Hampshire cause we don’t talk funny.

Food.  What more can I say?  The food was amazing.  We hit most of our favorites when we were back and the scale confirms it for me.  We went to Liz’s favorite pizza place, I acquired nachos at several locations and I even found the time to score chicken at the Upland BP station.  I even got fountain drinks - and lots of them.  Tell me if this sounds really weird, but I haven’t found fountain drinks yet at a single gas station in NH.  Somebody needs to get on that.  I need to find somewhere I can start scoring 44oz beverages for 69 cents again.

The wedding was a real hit.  The Boltz family dancers created another dance and I think it was the best one yet.  This time I also got to sit in on the planning and practicing and watch everything unfold.  I was told that this one was taped and should be surfacing on YouTube soon.  Oh, and as usual there were tux issues.  My pants disappeared but luckily Soulman was able to pick up another pair.

The trip home was a bit long, but we finally tried out Amtrak.  Marquis tipped me off to the free parking at the Dover station so we opted to get train tickets to Portland instead of leaving our car there for $12/day.  There was a $10/day option but that lot was full when we arrived.  We’re thinking of maybe checking it out again if we want to head to Boston or something in the future.

As I mentioned before, we had a lot of snacks.  In true Dude-fashion I was able to get as lazy as possible and increase my daily feedings from 2-3 to about 8.  Now it’s time to actually move around again and eat if I’m actually hungry.
