One last time

Since Liz and I will be moving soon, it seems I’ve been trying to do things just one last time before we’re gone.  Some are going quite well, and others not so much.  This past weekend we went to Iowa to hang out with the gang since we probably won’t be seeing them for a while.  We obviously had to make a trip to Harris.  Best pizza in the world.  Now that would be an example of a good experience.

A couple weeks ago Liz and I walked down to TOPPIT, a local pizza place, and the experience was pretty lame.  This is one of those places that every time we go I’m left asking myself why.  Service is terrible, it took forever to get our food, and we charged $5 more than the menu said due to rising costs.  Good thing they put a little sign on the register because putting a sign on all four tables would have really been a pain.

I’ve also been doing my weekly chicken strips with ranch trips to the BP station and we’ve been trying to hang out with all of our friends as much as possible.  I’m kind of looking forward to after we move when I won’t be constantly busy all of the time.  Sure there’ll be things to do like getting settled in at a new job, unpacking those boxes, and learning my way around, but at least I won’t be having to schedule in something to do almost every single night for a month solid.  Maybe after we move I’ll have some down time to work more on all of my web projects.

Updater update #3

I finally just did a manual install/upgrade of Wordpress on the movie blog and everything is peachy now.  I really like to in-house plug-in updater.  You just have to supply it with some ftp credentials.

I also wrote a post on bloggingamigos about it.

The BACONATOR

Some of you know my love for meat and cheese.  Whenever I go to a burger place, I usually look for the biggest and baddest hunk of cow slathered with cheese and stuck between two pieces of bread on the menu.  As you can imagine, I’ve had my fair share of Baconators at Wendy’s.

On Sunday we were there with some friends and my buddy Nate was considering one.  I informed him I thought they were kind of anti-climatic.  You’re expecting this hot, juicy burger and what I’ve usually gotten is this pathetic thing you can hardly see because it’s all encompassed by the bun.  I also happened to say this in line, in front of all the Wendy’s employees.  Well, Nate got the Baconator anyways and it was the biggest, best looking Baconator I’ve ever seen in my life.  Maybe I just need to find somebody to do the same for me.

Updater update #2

So the updater didn’t work and I was having problems figuring out what went wrong.  Then Soulman showed up and helped me over his lunch hour.  What happened is a couple files were somehow truncated and no new files seem to have been copied.  So my blog works now and was never really upgraded.  Maybe I’ll do a manual upgrade later today if I have time.

Updater update

Well, I think either the database got weird, some files got weird, or a combination of both.  There seem to be two sets of tables in my database which is really weird.  Luckily Soulman a.ka. - The Cavalry - is trying to help me out.  I’ll definitely have a “nice” post about this updater on BloggingAmigos when this is all through.

Automatic Upgrade problems

Tara used the automatic upgrade plugin for Wordpress on some blogs and didn’t have any problems.  The exact same didn’t happen for me.  I tried to do it on this blog and ran into a bunch of problems so I then tried to do it on the movie blog and ran into the exact same problems.  So I did some research, read a few things, and then changed some file permissions.  Well, it got farther in the “upgrade”, but now nothing works at all.  This is what I posted on the Wordpress.org forums.  I would greatly appreciate any help.

I tried to use the automatic upgrader to go from 2.3.2 to 2.5 and was having a lot of problems with file permissions. I was reading some comments on the creator’s site and it said to try a recursive chmod to change permissions on some stuff. So I tried that and it was able to get past setting the blog into maintenance mode and what not. Well right before I got to the point where it would upgrade my database I got several pages of errors all similar to this, for what I’m guessing is every file:

Warning: copy(/home/chalupa/public_html/movies/wp-admin/upgrade-functions.php) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/chalupa/public_html/movies/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/wpau_upgrade.class.php on line 181

So now if I try to go to my blog or my dashboard I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function require_wp_db() in /home/chalupa/public_html/movies/wp-settings.php on line 206

I’m guessing some of the files were upgraded and some were not? I’m also guessing my database hasn’t been upgraded yet. I did the auto-backup procedure with the plugin and saved those files. I’m not exactly sure what I need to do to replace those. Currently my computer won’t let me even see what’s in them because it has deemed them as “unsafe”. Should I just talk to my webhost and have them roll back to last week’s backup? I would greatly appreciate any help.

Ahoy!

I hope you’ve seen the semi-recent Old Spice commercials with Bruce Campbell.  They’ve been on this big “manly” kick lately and I’ve been finding most of them hilarious.  Well, today, Liz informed me that the song Bruce is singing that goes something like…

Smell like I sound,
I’m lost in a crowd
And I’m hungry like the wolf

…just happens to be the lyrics to a Duran Duran song.
