Jesse James

I just saw The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. It was kind of a depressing movie. I liked it a lot, but it was a bit of a downer.  Makes me think of the Alice Cooper song.

Finally! Thank you! Someone else who appreciated, and really really liked this movie. So many people have said it was boring and long and slow. I thought it was beautiful and deep and profound and yes, as you said, very sad. But not sad in a dismal way but sad in a variety of ways that is mysterious and peculiar and strange. It made me question the idea of “celebrity” and what that word means and why people who die early or young or at the hands of someone who wears their greed or pride on their sleeve or…I don’t know. I could go on and on. It was fascinating. But I think it has to do with who you are…truly. Jesse James was Jesse James. Robert Ford wanted to Jesse James. Are all people cowards who live this way? I think this movie answered that question, to some extent, gave me that answer. And that moved me.

Thanks for championing this movie. I hope more people see it and talk about it.

I knew you would have liked this movie. I’ve been working on a proper review on the movie blog, but haven’t finished it just yet.
