28 Weeks Later

Looks like there’s a sequel coming up to 28 Days Later. Here’s a link to the trailer on Apple’s site. Sounds like Muse is doing part of the soundtrack. I’m pretty stoked. Different writers and director, but Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are executive producers. So hopefully I won’t be disappointed.

Episode 3 - Re-recorded

Last night a few of us got together and re-did episode three.  We think we had some cell phone interference last time.  Just gave the files a quick listen and it all sounds great.  I’ll get on the editing ASAP and we’ll have that out for you as soon as it’s done.

Tuesday = Subway

Every Tuesday Gunner and I try to get lunch together.  Usually we go to Subway cause they have any footlong of your choice for $3.99.  It’s a pretty stellar deal.  Well, I felt the need to announce that Gunner is all growned up.  He finally got jalapeños on his sandwich.  My hat goes off to you buddy.  Keep up the good work.

Chattin with the wife

Liz: Hey.
Me: hi
i opened the fridge
and saw your white box
so i looked inside
and asked myself what mcgriff would do
so i took a bite out of crime
Liz: How many bites out of crime did you take?
Me: just one
Liz: I see.
Well… I can live with that, I suppose.
Me: crime = hamburger
Liz: Pretty delicious hamburger, I might add.
Me: do you like Of Montreal?
Liz: I’ve enjoyed what you’ve played for me.
That was a long time ago.
Me: i’m listening to their album Gay Parade
it sounds like sgt pepper’s lonely heart club band
Liz: Cool.
I went to campus this morning and put up signs about the art show.
Me: cool
did you get your camera too?
Liz: No, that’s next week.
Me: oh yeah
Liz: I got a spam e-mail about penis enlargement today.
Well, it was one of many.
Me: you don’t even have one of those
Liz: I know!
I get quite a bit of spam.
Lots of e-mails about ED.
This latest one was the first to ever include pictures, before.
Me: wow
Liz: I’ve got my preview window open.
I didn’t open the spam on purpose.
But anyway. . .the picture was gross.
I just wanted to tell someone about it.
Me: it’s hard to keep that kind of info to yourself
Liz: Yeah.

Update

It seems like I’m hardly posting and even hardly on the internet anymore because we’re still working on getting things setup at the new place.  The “new place” is that duplex we applied for.  Amazingly, everything went through and we were able to move.  Well, maybe I shouldn’t say ‘we’.  Liz moved along with the help of some of her family and my buddies Gunner, Bleu, Gary, Leon, Steve and Rachel.  Friends are awesome.

Now we’re just trying to unpack everything and make it not look like a storage unit.  I successfully unpacked our DVD collection yesterday and sorted them alphabetically.  So far the kitchen is pretty much good to go.  Still working on our room.  Because of the mold we’re having to wash everything.  I don’t think you realize how much clothes you have until you have to wash all of them.  I have way more clothes than I actually wear on a regular basis.

I’ve seen a few good movies recently like Half Nelson, Marie Antoinette, 300, Tenacious D and The Pick of Destiny, This Film is Not Yet Rated, Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, To Kill A Mockingbird, The U.S. vs John Lennon, The Devil and Daniel Johnson, etc.  I’ve been trying to post on the movie blog as well, but haven’t been as successful as I would like to.  I’ll keep working on that.

The Lebowski podcast has been coming along nicely.  We keep getting emails from people who just seem to love us.  We like to refer to them as “butt kissing emails”.  We get some good suggestions from our listeners and we’ve also been having some fun with thought provoking trivia questions.  Saturday we recorded episode 3, but afterwards found out something was interfering and most of our recording is useless.  So we’ll have to re-record.

I haven’t been getting much reading done in La Piedra Filosofal, but I have been reading book 11 of the Wheel in Time Series.  I just love that series.  It’s so interesting and I just get sucked in by Robert Jordan’s creativity.

That’s about it for now.  I’ve been waiting on a download to finish so I can continue working on an lab image here at work.

Episode 3 - Recorded

Some of us got together and recorded Episode 3 over the weekend.  We were missing Gunner and Moser, and we also had to switch gears from our original plan.  The original plan was to have some guest speakers come in and talk about feminism as we explored the women in the film and Maude specifically.  Because of my apartment flooding, health problems and moving, we had to push things back a bit and not everybody was able to show up.  So the plan for Episode 4 is to pick up with Maude and feminism.  We’ll let you know when it’s up on iTunes.

Set Default Wallpaper in Windows

I don’t know about you, but my job involves managing labs of computers. I was never formally taught how to create default profiles for our Windows machines, it’s just something I’ve been playing with over the past 5 years or so. Every once in a while I learn I was making something way too complicated or I find an easier way to fix something we’ve been scratching our heads about for ages. Today I figured out how to set the default background image through a registry edit. This will set the wallpaper and essentially “gray out” the option to switch or change the background when people login.

Previously, we had just set the background image and then copied over the default profile. However, if you logged in without administrative rights, the desktop image was always blank. We did find out that by going to the background properties, everything seemed to be set properly and then when we hit “OK”(without changing anything) then the background image would magically appear.

We also tried this registry edit a while back and had it pointing to a background image on the desktop. We thought this was a good idea because then we could change messages on the desktops by changing the network file. Theoretically this sounded great, but just like communism, it didn’t work in practice. We then had partial desktop backgrounds loading or even not loading at all do to heavy network traffic.

So I had the idea to use the registry edit, only point it to a local file. I know this probably seems overly simple, but I unfortunately didn’t think it up quickly enough. After figuring out how to do this, I wrote up some instructions and am putting them below.

Technical Difficulties

As you may have noticed, the site was down the other day due to some technical difficulties with the server.  Almost everything is back up, just having a few problems with some permalinks, but those should be fixed soon.

Another doctor visit

Hey, I got out of the house today!  However, it was to the hospital again - where my doctor’s office is located - so I don’t think that really counts as ‘getting out’.  I’m definitely getting better, little by little.  What’s really frustrating to me in this whole situation is that after finding out my medicine had been screwed up last year and spending 6 agonizing months getting worse and worse, I finally got better.  I was finally starting to feel like I was getting back to normal and enjoying life when this latest ordeal happened.

Some people have told me I just need to move to another state like Arizona.  As much as I like that place (I was born there), I think I’m doing fine here in Indiana as long as things are “normal”.  For now I think it’s worth sticking out.  I at least have a competent doctor who’s pretty awesome to boot.

Liz went in with my to see the doctor today and he was asking about the apartment situation.  We were telling him a bit about the discussion going back and forth and how we had pretty much been told I’m a special case with pre-existing conditions which is why….and that’s when Dr. D cut Liz off.  “Pre-existing conditions?  BULLSHIT!!  If he’s not going to make the place livable for you to live then he needs to advertise - Equal Opportunity Housing Unless You Have Asthma.”  And that pretty much sums up my pulmonologist.  He tells it like it is and I definitely appreciate that.
