Easter 2k6

I used to always drive back to Iowa for Easter. I didn’t always super enjoy it because it always seemed to land on daylight savings weekend. I’d always end up staying up way too late with friends and then on top of losing an hour of sleep, my mom would wake us up at like 5:00 to go to a sunrise service where I’d be “not there” (this makes complete sense if you know about me not being very awake). I would then eat a huge meal for lunch and then have to drive the 6hrs back to school. So hardly any sleep on top of huge meal that makes you tired was never a good combination. I don’t think I’ve been back for Easter in a while. My junior or senior year was the last time I did that.

This year I went to Funlumbus. I wasn’t really planning on going over Easter weekend specifically, it just happened that way. Soulman and January had gotten engaged and I wasn’t able to come for their big party so I told them I could come in a couple weeks. We had a lot of fun. Some might even call it a blast. Soulman and I saw three movies in a row at the theater, we made some enchiladas, I got to see friends (Phil, Ed, Butros, Katie, Greg, German Village), I tried to teach Phil how to say ‘enchilada’, I messed with Zoe, enjoyed the sweet weather, saw some ultimate fighting, etc, etc, etc.

Sunday morning, Soulman and Jan had to take off at 8:30 and I ended up leaving by 8:45. Drove back to Funcie for the big Boltz Easter Shindig. After a quick nap and a filling breakfast, the festivities eventually got underway. Liz made up a big-kid Easter Egg Hunt game that at first received some groans, but everybody loved once they got into it. Everybody paired up in teams of 2 and threw $2 into the prize pot. That left us with a grand prize of $32. We then made clues using magazine articles and ads for our 8 differently colored eggs. After hiding our eggs the teams drew a color. You then had to get all the clues for your color and find them. You even got one freebie since you hid an egg of each color. Some of the eggs were easy to find and others were pretty hard. Somehow Liz and I ended up winning.

Immediately after finding our last egg I went running to go find Carol and Phil acting as though he was going to impede my forward movement. So I yelled out, “Phil, I’m going to kill you!!!” and gave him a forearm as I ran by. Phil seemed a little bothered by this innocuous threat on his life so I tried to patch things up. After everything was over, Liz, Phil, Katie and I were in the living room and I said, “Hey Phil…sorry for threatening to kill you………..but seriously…I really meant it.”

So it was definitely a good Easter. Oh yeah, and Liz gave me an Easter Basket that was full of cheese.

Good Friday

Today started off with a trip for breakfast. First place we went to ended up being closed for the weekend, but the second place was pretty sweet. They only have a couple items on the menu for you to choose from for breakfast. Apparently they only make one thing for lunch and dinner. I think that’s kind of cool.

Afterwards we hung out back at the office for a bit and then we made enchiladas. After a wonderful meal - one that ended with sweet, sweet strawberry pie made by Soulman, Soulman and I hit up 3 movies in a row at the theater. We saw, Inside Man, Thank You For Smoking and Lucky Number Slevin. That last one has got to be one of the most revengeful movies I’ve seen in a while. The smoking movie was pretty hilarious.

So now it’s 4:30 in the a.m. Soulman and I are chillin, surfin the net and hanging out.

Bat Cave

I’m currently writing from Soulman’s bat cave… aka - THE OFFICE. We’re actually pretty close to the Steak “..nuther pibb dude?” N Shake on campus. I also got to see January’s apartment, Ed, Butros and the Philinator. Tomorrow is Frankfurter Friday. That should be awesome. The drive over wasn’t too bad and it’s nice just to be out of town for a while.

It’s definitely getting warm and I like it. Driving around with the windows down is fun. Give it a try sometime if you’ve never done it. Well, I’m pretty tired now so I should stop typing before I say something really stupid.

Frisbee Golf

Got my first game of the year in today. I wasn’t that good, but have I ever been good at the game? On my way back though I saw this guy digging through his trunk with the hood up and another car parked in front of it at Casa. I almost walked by, but I suddenly recognized that sound. The sound of frantically looking for a tool that isn’t there. So I walked over and asked if he needed some jumper cables or something like that. Turns out he had left his 3/8″ extension at home. Well, actually, his son didn’t put it back with the other tools. So William and I swung back here, I got some extensions, and we swapped out the battery. He seemed like a pretty cool guy. I think we could be friends if we ever run into each other again. He even offered to pay me something - which was way out of the question of course. All I did was lend him a 3/8″ extension and help swap out a battery. I’m sure he would have done the same for me if the situation was switched.

Cracker Barrel

I’ve never been a real big fan of this establishment. The first time I ever went I never got my food. It was move-in weekend at college my freshman year and my roommate’s family invited me to go along with them. The place was busy and when they brought out the food the waitress didn’t give me my plate. She just walked back to the kitchen with it. Apparently there was “a hair” on something. I then sat at the table with everybody for the next 45min waiting….waiting….waiting. My food never got out. The KID’s (That’s what we called my first roommate) mom was really worked up and wanted something brought out for me to eat. I wasn’t even really hungry in the first place and didn’t really care.

Every other time I’ve been there, maybe 5, it’s been ok. Nothing spectacular. Just food. Food I’ve felt like I could make at home and it would taste better, cost less, and be in whatever portion I wanted. Last night though, Robert M., Elizabeth A. and myself went there for a little food before the film fest and my faith was restored a little in Cracker Barrel. I went for the BLT salad. It’s covered with lots of bacon and cheese. It wasn’t too bad. In fact, it tasted pretty good. The bleu cheese dressing I got for it actually had pieces of cheese in it. I was happy.

So the round goes to you. The restaurant that tries to act “homey” and “country-ish”. However, that only makes your score 1-5. I think you got some more work to do on your game.

TOPPIT

TOPPIT is a pizza place in my town. TOPPIT stands for The Only Pizza Place In Town, however, it’s not. The pizza is alright. Nothing stellar like a PJ’s or Harris mind you. Its previous owners used to randomly close and open and it was oh so annoying when you were jonesing for a large pepperoni. Well eventually some new people bought it with promises of being a normal restaurant. Last night Toll and I walked down to TOPPIT to enjoy some pizza and found them closed. We then realized that both of us had never seen hours posted for the place with the new management. Ever. So we went to the competition down by the highway. You gotta be open to do business.

Good Weekend

Friday night I hit up some art shows and then did a Taco Bell/Pac-a-sac run. Saturday I tried to find the public shooting area south of Muncie. I was able to find it, but it was gated and locked. So much for an open, public area. My faith in Indiana was restored however when I got some free complementary bread sticks with cheese sauce at Pizza Hut. Today I’ve been able to chill, filled out some retirement fund paperwork stuff and got a letter written.

Happenings

  • I scored two free chicken strips
  • It’s Friday
  • Mahan’s art show is tonight
  • I’m pretty sure I encountered a drunk driver last night
  • I thought I spotted Adam Ashoff on Sons and Daughters - turns out it really was him
  • Heading to Funlumbus in the near future
  • Heading out early from work today cause I came in kinda early

Good news for all us Firefox users out there.

Cruise

I thought he was a little weird with his three front teeth back in the day, but this is a little ridiculous. Latest in the news is that Tom had a “special” pacifier made just for Katie on the day she gives birth to their child. If you aren’t very familiar with some of the stuff Scientology practices, I’m sure you’ll be glad to know they’re into silent childbirth.

That means there is to be no noise. No noise from the mother, no noise from the doctors and hopefully minimal noise from the child. Liz was telling me there’s also supposed to be no noise around the child for the first so many days of its life. Crazy, right? Here’s an article I found on google news that talks a little bit about it. I’m sure all you’ll have to do is google “Tom Cruise pacifier” or “Katie Holmes pacifier” or maybe even “Tom Cruise is a crazy crazy person” among many other possibilities to find loads of articles on this.
