Yesterday my car wouldn’t fire up when I tried to leave. I’m pretty sure it’s the battery. JRod tried to jump me last night, but nothing was working. So he graciously drove me to Wal-Mart to buy a battery. Now, I just tried to swap it out but I ran into some bolts that don’t want to budge. So instead of just busting them off I’m going to try and take it in to a local place here and have them help me get that bolt out. Luckily it starts up now. I think that’s probably cause it’s warmer now than it was before. So hopefully I’ll have a working car this afternoon.

If you haven’t heard, Best Buy bought out Sam Goody a while back and then effectively sunk it’s battleship before selling them off to somebody else. Now all Sam Goody stores are going out of business and the one by me had everything at least 40% off. TLoft and Browning informed of two, not one, but two of The Big Lebowski box sets were there. I happened to be in town last night so I stopped by and picked one up. Besides in coming in a pretty nice, velvet lined box, it also has some stuff inside. It contained the special edition dvd, 4 coasters, a bowling towel and 8 pictures that Jeff Bridges (The Dude) took on set while they were filming. The pictures are pretty good. I’ve been contemplating maybe framing some/all of the them.
On a lighter note, I bought a car charge for my phone while I was at the mall and I think the lady might have killed my battery when she was trying one of the chargers on my phone. I plugged it in when I got home last night around 9 and it was still charging when I left for work this morning.
So last night we ball and chained Toll, the 3rd keeper of said item and only keeper to have it given to him to date. So I got called in to do the deed. I felt like a celebrity pinch hitter or like Bill Murray or Christopher Walken when they get called in to host SNL. It was good times. JRod was here too so he got in on the action. Then afterwards a bunch of us hit up IHOP. Toll always hates ordering the same thing as somebody else so when he started talking about this super duper chicken sandwich thing, I knew I had to order it. Another thing I know is that he hates ordering first so when the Becky the waitress came back for our order I piped up and got Toll’s chicken sandwich. We had a lot of laughs and told some stories. It was a lot of fun. The group we had doesn’t seem to get together much anymore. Especially after our beloved PJ’s shut down at the end of the summer.
I always seem to come across them, here and there. Today, after acquiring 2 swiss bacon bufords and an order of bacon cheese fries at Rally’s, I saw a sign that said…
4′9″ is the magic number and until then, your child needs a booster seat
Now since this was on the interstate, I can only assume they’re talking about a booster seat in your car and not at your favorite restaurant. I immediately thought about my younger, shorter days and realized I didn’t hit 5 feet until junior high. Does this mean my mom shouldn’t have let me get out of the car seat when I was 3 or 4 years old? I really can’t imagine me in a car seat at the tender age of 10, 11 or 12.
Check out 103.1 out of LA or CD101 out of Columbus.
103.1 has a lot of famous people that host shows. At 3pm my time (noon California time) Jonesy’s Jukebox comes on and is hosted by Jones from the Sex Pistols. Here’s what happened today around that time…

me: i’ll pray for you
perry: yeah
perry: id appreciate that
I’m sure that all of you other normal people out there had the thought, “I wonder whatever happened to Steve Urkel?” while in the shower this morning. Well think no more. It’s all here.
I wonder what kinds of things cowboy sauce could be used for
I’m sure what I’m about to say might anger some people. Some might call me a racist or a bigot or maybe even something worse. However, this is how I feel and what I want to say so deal with it.
Last night “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp” from Hustle and Flow won for Original Song. The original songs are always performed at the Oscars. The other two nominees were “Traveling Through” from Transamerica and “In the Deep” from Crash. Maybe it’s because I just don’t understand the R&B culture that I thought “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp” wasn’t worthy of the award. When performed it was a woman signing the title over and over while three guys threw in a few words here and there ‘rap-style’ and some people were dancing around on the stage. Contrary to popular belief, I actually enjoy some rap. Most of the current styles, not really, but there is some that I really like. However, this song, in my mind, just seemed not so legitimate. Even Liz said, “She would never make it on American Idol”. My response was, “Well, she’s already made it so maybe she doesn’t have to be good now.” In hindsight, that comment wasn’t very nice. She probably has a great singing voice. A lot of times live performances aren’t super great.
The question that still remains for me is, “Why was this good enough to win?” It wasn’t like the lyrics were extremely meaningful. I didn’t see the movie so I have no real context to wrap this around. The arrangement isn’t even musically awesome because it was a rap song so it’s not like there’s any great instrumentation being utilized or anything like that. Does anybody have any thoughts or ideas on this one? I’m not trying to say “it sucks” and be done with it. I just don’t understand. Maybe I’m just ignorant.
It was kind of cool to see them accept the award. These guys were definitely excited to win. Jon Stewart even commented, “Martin Scorsese-0, Three Six Mafia-1″. It’s great that somebody like that can win on their first time.
So the Oscars were on last night. I’m sure most of you aren’t as elite as my friends and I as to anticipate this time of year, discussing who should win what and why so and so if never going to get the recognition they deserve. As usual, we tried to guess who would win in each category. You really have to have 2 votes for everything though; who you think is going to win, and who you want to win. Sometimes, those are the same movie, and sometimes not. Liz and I ended up tying with calling 13 people/movies last night. I had 9 though that I had said I wanted to win but didn’t think would. I am also very pleased to say that Crash won for Best Picture. I really liked that movie. Robby also pointed out the 4 movies won 3 awards each. Recently it has been 1 movie taking almost all the awards with the Lord of the Rings movies. I’m not trying to say those movies were bad, it’s just that it makes the awards night not that fun for everybody else. It’s like playing on the team that’s getting blown out at half-time with a score of 52-7.
So I guess now I really need to get my top 10 list up and out there. I think I’ve seen 61 or 62 movies from 2005 but there’s still several on the Oscars list I haven’t seen yet like, Syriana, Good Night and Good Luck, Capote, Hustle and Flow, Cinderella Man, Mrs. Henderson Presents, Matchpoint, most of the documentaries/short films and none of the foreign language films. I’m working on it though.
