Well, I’ve officially had my first Over the Rhine Christmas concert experience and it was good. Like the saying, “All things worth having must be worked for”, we had to work to get to that concert. Our original plan was to leave around 3. We got left about 3:30, but then Rajeev’s car broke down on us. So we headed back and took my car instead. We then stopped for some delicious Wendy’s and still showed up before the 7:00 door opening. Phil even got there early too. I’ve heard lots of stories how he always shows up really late because of his friends. Those friends happened to get there about 9:00. I was definitely glad I wasn’t with them. There were a couple opening acts. I don’t remember their names. The one did backup vocals for the band and she pretty much tried to sing and act like Karin. I didn’t get how bad it was til I actually saw them play. The other woman who opened was pretty good. I wasn’t a huge fan of her first song, but they just kept getting better.
After the 2nd opener I crawled up a couple rows to talk with Soulman and January (her month is coming up real quick) and was ordered by a woman, “Don’t step on my shawl!”. So as much as I wanted to…..I stayed away from her shawl. It was really hard cause everyone knows I just prowl around looking for a good shawl to stamp my size 11.5 shoes on. It’s a wonder I’m able to be productive in society, keep a job and pay my rent.
Friday we saw King Kong. I liked it, but I see where all the negative criticism has come from. It is a little long and some of the scenes are there just to look cool, etc. However, I still liked the movie.
So today I have a slow day at work followed by a trip to Florida tomorrow. Don’t know how much I’ll be on here in the coming week.
Sometimes known as that crazy, messed up box that ruins everybody’s lives…..or that really sweet site where you can listen to super sweet music. I like to think about the latter.
Sadly here at work Soulman’s radio station often cuts in and out and makes listening to songs quite hard. So I decided to jump on the bandwagon known as pandora. Yesterday, however, I had a bit of a scare as the site was suddenly unavailable to me mid-afternoon. My first thought was, “Great! They blocked this too!” I am listening to it now though, so you can stop gripping your mouse. For now, that short story has a wonderful ending.
Tonight is the long awaited and hoped for Staff/Faculty Christmas banquet. Where they have lots of decent food and I get to see ‘older’ people passive-aggressively fight over the jumbo shrimp. It’s really the highlight of the night, second only to our Christmas gift. Two years ago I got 2 travel coffee mugs and an atlas. Last year we got some cheese, sausage (one of the manliest gifts every to be given on a holiday) and this really dumb looking ornament that I pawned off at our awesome Alba-White-Elefant-Gift-Exchange. I think I made out on top that year.
For now we have more ‘wintry-mix’ on the way. Oh, and on Saturday I’m going to the Over the Rhine Christmas show. That should be a rocking time.
If you haven’t experienced it yet, you should definitely drive around til you find some and see how awesome it is. Supposedly we’re getting some tomorrow.
Had another good weekend and even picked up a computer game on Sunday after church. The Settlers V: King’s Heritage. It looked cool and is a lot like Warcraft/Starcraft where you build up a town to do/get certain things then have a mission to accomplish. Let’s just say I spent a couple hours getting through the first 5 missions.
I just realized that I don’t have my wallet or knife in my back pocket. I feel naked. I immediately remembered where I took them out and now I need to get them back. Tomorrow night is our bi-annual A-Group outing, then Thursday is the Christmas party where I see “old” people passive-aggressively fight over the shrimp. Then it’s the weekend that will hopefully include a viewing of King Kong. Oh yeah, and I also need to get that suit of mine altered so I can wear it for Kat’s wedding.
I overheard this as I passed a group of girls trying to figure out what kind of ice cream they wanted to get…
Scrawny girl in wearing red: (Said while emphatically counting off each item on her fingers) Tomorrow I am going on a diet, I’m gonna start tanning, and I’m gonna start workin out!
Rest of group: Yeah! You go girl!
It took much willpower not to laugh. That’s all I’m going to say without making fun even more.
Or, as some would like to call it, “What Chalupa ate for dinner”
Step 1 - Take 2 half bags of weird shaped noodles and put in very large pot. Cut up one delicious looking polish sausage and add to pot. Put in a bunch of water and boil for a while til done.
Step 2 - Drain water.
Step 3 - Lower heat. Add 1 stick of butter. Add 1/2 to 3/4lb of extremely sharp cheddar cheese that’s too strong to eat plain cause it makes your face twinge. Add 1/3 box of velveeta cheese. Add approximately 1 cup of left over spicy cheese dip you made last week. Add about 1/2 lb of browned hamburger. Add one fat, manly squirt of yellow mustard for taste.
Step 4 - Cook everything and mix well. Add some milk so it isn’t too dry. Wait for all the cheese to melt and for everything to be mixed up and looking awesome.
Step 5 - Eat it.
Yields: Probably enough to feed at least 10+ people, or chalupa and superjew for 2 meals.
If you didn’t know already, when I cook I don’t really measure things out. I just throw stuff in and cook by feel. If I were an amateur pilot, I’d probably like flying bi-planes or something.
A big thanks to Liz for finding this for me. Frankly, I find it hilarious. I’m sure you’ll appreciate it.
I love to bowl with my youth group and consider bowling to be a healthy pasttime. I was so disappointed that this movie would take a clean Christian sport like bowling and pervert with the drugs and sex and profanity. I would urge other Christian bowlers to stay away from “The Big Lebowski”.
Timmah and I got back from our trip to Indy tonight. Things are looking a little better. Hopefully we’re out of the woods. We had to make a pit stop at Ivanhoe’s afterwards for some cowabunga burgers. Neither of us had enjoyed one for quite some time.
Oh, and if you think of it you should be appreciating your veterans. Today was the 64th anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
“BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein refused to enter court for his trial on Wednesday, bringing the often chaotic proceedings to a halt before the judge decided to press on with the televised hearing without him.
After telling the court to “go to hell” the night before, the former dictator boycotted what would have been the fifth session of the trial and spent most of the day in talks with lawyers and a battle of wills with the Kurdish presiding judge.”
“Saddam’s half-brother Barzan, his then intelligence chief, complained of his treatment in jail. He said he had been denied tea and coffee for a year, lost 18 kg (40 lb) in weight and offered only inferior brand cigarettes.”

You would think they realize they’re making fools out of themselves. You’re on trial for murder, genocide, crimes against humanity and complaining about no coffee, no tea and inferior cigarettes? I would think maybe they’re lucky somebody didn’t torture them to death or take out their aggressions in some other way.
It’s weird how sometimes I’m putting stuff up here all the time and then low and behold it’s been a week with nothing posted.
I saw Jarhead over the weekend at Hollywood Bar and Filmworks. I love that place. It’s so cool. If you didn’t know already, Castleton Arts has been closed down. I loved that place…even more than the aforementioned theater. Lots of good memories there. Supposedly there’s a new independent theater in Indy with 7 screens. I haven’t been there yet and I’m not sure where it’s at, but I’ll have to check it out sometime.
Yesterday I got some bad news that a good friend of mine is in the hospital. Kinda of a shock and very much a downer all at the same time. Lofton and I are hoping to get down there and see him but visiting is restricted. So we’re really hoping we can get in there sometime.
Other than that and me jumping on the myspace bandwagon……not much going on.
I like weekends. Weekends mean I don’t have to work. Tomorrow Chris and I are going to be hanging out with Nathan. He’s moving on up to the East side, getting married, and starting a new job. I’m excited for him.
Last night I had one of my crazy headaches. I hate them. Lights and sounds annoy me, my head hurts, I forget things, I say weird things, etc, etc. Then afterwards things are kind of a blur. Today though, I get to head out at 1:30 because I had to work extra earlier this week. That’ll be nice. Liz and I are going to be heading down to Indy to do something fun. Twas her birthday yesterday and I kinda missed out on the celebrations.
It’s also FREE FOOD FRIDAY. First friday of every month they have free food upstairs in the faculty lounge. Joe and I try to always take advantage of it, but sometimes we miss out. Last month it was double FREE FOOD FRIDAY and I missed out on it all because I went to a wedding. I’ll have to make up for it today.
