Weekend fun

This weekend was the Superjew’s birthday. I met up in the great land of chicago with TJ, Kletzing, Cowgur, Telman and Friedbergs at their sweet apartment. Here’s a few of the highlights:

  • Munchkin
  • Telman: Hey Chalupa how would you like to help me out? *eyes knee pads of allure*
Me: I have a knife in my pocket.
    …..
Telman: Hey Dave, how would you like to help me out?
  • Firefly
  • Clue
  • Museum of Holography
  • Wandering around the great city of Chicago
  • Almost getting hit by a crazy guy in a black car probably going about 60 mph faster down Racine while looking for the museum
  • Meeting Grace
  • Parking pass and parking outside of the apartment instead of 1.8miles away
  • Tasty food cooked by Brooke
  • Tasty bleu cheeseburgers at Moody’s
  • Virtually no traffic at 7:30am coming home
  • The Weatherman

It was a good weekend. It’s too bad these kinds of things don’t last longer.

Bathroom noises…

So today I was getting into the shower and heard the weirdest noise coming from above. That was then followed by a sound of great rushing water. I think my upstairs neighbors were plunging their toilet.

News from home

So I heard a little while back an interesting story about some of my former coaches. Sometime after I was done with high school my head coach went to be the athletic director for another school in our conference. He apparently also got some other coaches to come and coach for him. This year my former head coach is coaching one of the schools in the district he works for. The other night my high school beat his team. While getting on the bus a student made a comment to one of our previous coaches. This previous coach boarded the bus, dragged the kid off the bus, and attacked him.

It’s looking like that coach’s career is kinda bye bye and my former head coach got pulled mid season from his position for once again losing it big time on the field. Sound kinda crazy? Not to me. I could have told you 10 years ago these guys were walking time bombs. At times I have respected them for different things, but it’s not like I ever wanted to grow up to be like them. I guess the worst part about this is the example they’ve given to kids over the years. What if they become coaches someday? How are they going to act towards their child’s T-ball team or basketball team or what if they coach at the jr. high, high school or even collegiate level someday?

Not fat?

So I saw a doctor recently, today actually, and at one point in conversation was told, “cause it’s not like you’re overweight or anything.” Now that’s a direct quote. I guess I found a doctor that doesn’t hold the standard height and weight charts 2 notches below the Bible and the Doctor’s Reference Book. You mean not everybody conforms to those things? I guess it’s ok to be in the 5′8″ to 5′9″ range and not weigh 160 pounds. Wow - revolutionary.

Meeting of the families

Well, the familia made it here just fine. Thursday night Sara and Liz came over and then they came back again Friday night with their mom for chalupa. Everybody hit it off right away and seemed to get along great. Tonight we went to church and then met up with Karen and Rajeev for some food afterwards. Lots more story telling and laughing. I’m really glad everyone likes each other. I didn’t think it wouldn’t happen, but it I guess it’s just reassuring or something that it did.

Tomorrow Liz and I are gonna go hang out with Lana some. Maybe even hit up a movie in Indy afterwards. It should be yet another good day this weekend.

Dylan Turdler?

Just got another random phone call, I tend to get a lot of these.

Girl: Dylan?
Me: Who?
Girl: Is this Dylan?
Me: …uh, no
Girl: This isn’t Dylan?
Me: Nope
Girl: Yeah…..ok…whatever………
Girl: ….
Girl: Well I’m just calling to tell you I’m pressing charges
Me: Uh, ok
… then I hung up …

So apparently my name is Dylan now. Apparently I do things that gets charges pressed against me. Maybe I’m like Tyler Durden only Dylan Turden. I should find out what I do in my sleep. It’s a good thing Soulman is here to help me find my true identity.

Cooking, cooking, cooking….

Things have been a bit busy lately. Not at work, but in my kitchen. My sister will be here Thursday afternoon and my mom is coming Friday afternoon. My sister has fall break and was able to hitch a ride up here. My mom decided to come out cause it’s not often that 2 of her kids are in the same place at once. It should be a lot of fun.

Thursday night Sara and Liz are coming over and I made this meatloaf-cheese-mashed potatoes thing. Friday night I’ll have chalupa prepared and there may or may not be a bunch of people over. Other than getting things cooked for that, I haven’t been doing a whole lot this week. I still need to get the meat cooked for the chalupa and finish up the last things on that, but most of the work is done.

Ever have those days where you’re busy busy busy and then you all of a sudden realize you forgot to eat? That was me today. I’m not even hungry though, just tired. I’m thinking of just going to bed. Maybe reading a little bit first. I need to make sure I’m at work early anyways to get some stuff setup first thing in the morning.

Almost a week….

Yep, almost a week since the last post. I guess I’ve been….busy? Lots of stuff going on - some good and some bad. Last Friday Liz and I did a double header done at Castleton Arts. We saw Broken Flowers and Junebug. Now some people might call that a waste of money but that’s a well spent evening if you ask me. We even kicked the night off with some pizzeria Uno pizza.

Sunday Debbie died. She was one of the night supervisors where I work. She had been battling cancer for quite some time so it wasn’t like it was unexpected. Her funeral was yesterday. It was a really good service. Unfortunately, yesterday, Joe wasn’t here because he was in Colorado since his grandfather died. People keep dying. This needs to stop.

On a lighter note, I finally purchased some Spoon. I’ve been rocking out all day this week at work and even some after work at home. This band is going somewhere and even if they don’t, they’ll hold a permanent residence in my heart. These guys are awesome. Speaking of which, Soulman’s radio station is back up and running so listen to your heart’s content kiddies.

Tonight the plan is looking like getting a bunch of people together for some pizza hut and Elizabethtown afterwards. That’s Cameron Crowe’s new film if you weren’t aware. And next weekend mi mama y la hermanita van a estar aqui. It should be a good time. Becky has already given me a list of things she wants me to cook for her, has informed me she’s bringing tupperware to take food back with her and is bringning 2+ weeks worth of laundry to do at my place. Am I being taken advantage of? Don’t answer that.

Weddings and Funerals

Went to a wedding with Liz. One of her cousins got married today. It was a lot of fun, as weddings should be. I also got to meet some cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. Apparently a lot of them already sort of know about me cause of the wonderful world of blogging. It’s not like I don’t know this is open to the public, but sometimes I don’t always think about people I don’t know reading this and then maybe actually meeting them someday. So here’s a shout-out and a hello to all the Boltz and Bremer people that have or maybe will read this thing.

It was kinda funny today because several times people made comments to me about Liz’s family being crazy or wild, etc. Wondering if I could handle it or whatever. Part of that is probably because I’m really not into most music played at weddings and I’m not really into dancing. I’m also a bit of a quiet person and in large group gatherings I sometimes find myself chilling, sitting off to the side. A lot of times people misconstrue this as I’m not having a good time, I’m mad, I’m feeling awkward, I don’t feel part of the group, something must be wrong, etc. This is rarely the case at all. I am very content to just sit and not say much. I’m still having a good time though. I’m also not much of a chit-chat person and don’t feel compelled to say something just to have somebody talking.

So….I had a great time. It was great meeting and talking to people and finally putting faces to some of the people I’ve heard stories about.

Funerals…..it was my Uncle Jack’s funeral today. He died Monday night. This wasn’t really a big shock or anything because his health hasn’t been very good since I was in high school. However, it’s not like I’m not sad about it either. There was no way Becky and Andy could make it back and if I were to go it would pretty much be driving, then funeral then driving back. Making the trip not really worthwhile especially with some of the asthma problems I was having all last week (one reason why I haven’t been posting tons lately). Plus, Jack knew tons and tons of people and was pretty much loved by everyone so there were going to be oodles of people there anyways. I think at Thanksgiving or Christmas, sometime when we’re all back home, we’re all going to drive up and see Aunt Betty and stuff. I think she would like that and I know I would enjoy seeing her again.

It’s almost a bit ominous to have Uncle Jack die because all of my grandpa’s siblings are getting up there in age. Jack was married to grandpa’s sister Betty, so he’s not one of the Albas, but still, there’s a large group of people in my family that are all up there in years and I hate to think about when they’ll all start going.

So enough of this sad stuff. It was also homecoming this weekend and Tsaiguy stayed at my place for a bit. Didn’t really see many other people cause I wasn’t meandering around today on campus, but there weren’t many coming back that I knew about. Still watching lots of movies and trying to read books. Not much else going on other than same old stuff.
