Unfortunately I don’t have a sad ballad about my favorite pizza place in the whole state, but maybe I’ll come up with something later.
On the fateful eve of Sept 11, 2005 Liz and I drove to Warren followed by many comrades in arms from the hallowed floor of SammyII. We got there all hungry and excited to pop some quarters into that jukebox and fire up yet another round of never-ending 70’s and 80’s southern rock. Yet what to our eager eyes should appear but an empty dining room with rummage sale written all over it. The middle tables were gone, there was a movie rack full of VHS, random computer monitors, books and other junk lined the tables around the perimeter. “What the hell happened,” you might ask. Well that’s what we’d like to know.
We usually call before we come with more than 10 people and this time C-Willz found out the line had been disconnected. That certainly didn’t deter us - cause we’re their best customers, right? Well guess what we found a block and a half away….can’t guess? Ok, I’ll tell you. We found an East of Chicago. Funny how a chain restaurant shows up after our favorite mom and pop place mysteriously goes under. Then to top it all off they couldn’t even support PJ’s flower shop with their table centerpieces.
If you ask me there’s something foul afoot in that town.
- I went to the covered bridge festival
-I finally saw Wedding Crashers
- I’ve been reminded as to when the sun comes up
- I should really get some sleep
Once again I get to stop working for a few days. I always love it when that happens. Looks like I’ll be experiencing the Covered Bridge Festival tonight. That should be fun. There’s also a run to PJ’s in the near future and Monday I’m heading off to the Green Day concert in Indy.
The class is going well and things are starting to sort of slow down here at work. My DSL has been out since yesterday…but all in all it’s been a decent week.
Last night I saw actual footage of the hurricane damage in Louisiana and Mississippi. I knew stuff was bad because I’ve been reading about it. I’ve been ‘reading’ about it because my TV reception sucks and I don’t feel like paying for cable or satellite TV. All I’ve got to say is it’s bad down there. Reading about it only tells you so much - visually seeing what you’re reading puts a new light on things. I’m not trying to say I thought they were pansies before and now I really believe things are bad. I’m just saying that I’m even more shocked than I was before.
Many people have been standing up and saying things like, ‘Pres. Bush doesn’t care about black people’ or ‘Bush should be impeached’. I really am not sure who is exactly to blame on this one. I would say the government should have responded much better than they did. Do I think that our president is personally to blame? I don’t think the president personally set out for things to happen the way they did. However, I will say that the president is ultimately responsible for certain things that happen in this country. So in a way, yes, the president is responsible.
I think now what we really need to focus on is getting help to those that need it. Yes, it’s important to recognize the social injustices and point out that changes need to be made. At the same time the victims shouldn’t be left on the sidelines while bureaucrats yell at each other. I think we need to get the job done and then worry about placing all the blame later.
I’m not at work today. I got my crazy signature headaches. I’m really hoping they’ll be gone by the end of the day. At least I’m out of my bed now and can stand up without feeling like I’m going to fall over.
There was a bee buzzing around my room all morning. I gave him the swat with my trusty pink bee-swatter 4 times which finally pummeled him off my mini blinds, dead, onto my keyboard. I think it was making a kamikaze-last-stand flight towards me.
A few years ago, probably about 10 or so, Andy and I had a bee infestation in our beloved basement. Every night we were kept awake by a loud buzzing sound that seemed to be coming from the walls. Of course nobody believed us until there were lots of bees flying around the lower level of our house and we were getting stung at night. Turned out there was a tiny hole in the mortar next to our window that bees were constantly flying in and out of. They had made their new home in our home which was so not cool. We eventually bought 3 cans of that bee killer stuff, sprayed all 3 into said hole, caulked the hole over so they couldn’t get out and then waited.
We thought the bees were loud before, but now they buzzed like 3 times louder. I suppose if somebody sprayed toxic waste into my front door and then sealed it shut I’d be pissed off too. Eventually the buzzing subsided and all those angry bees flying around my basement turned into slow, retarded, drunken bees flying around making like they were piloting the late and great Exxon Valdez.
Let’s just say I don’t like bees. I also don’t like ants and wolf spiders, but those are stories for another day…
Once again I have bent the will of a computer to my own. This time, more importantly, it was my own computer. I’m now running XP again even though it used to not accept my key anymore. All I have to say is, ‘Take that Willy G!’
Oh and earlier I forgot to mention that my boss was saying he really liked the dip I made. The funny part was that a lot of people were saying how hot and spicy it was. Sam and I were laughing about it cause I left pretty much all the spicy out of it. Then Gary said, “This stuff is pretty good, but for some of these kids it’s probably hot enough to give em the runs for a week.” I don’t think anybody could have put it better. Fortunately I had a little left to bring home. Unfortunately all the chips got eaten. Luckily I have some more here at home.
Time to finish some more updates then get some sleep.
I’m not really sure about the origins of said National Holiday, but all I know is that I like it cause I don’t have to work. I heard my hermanito had classes. That’s nuts if you ask me. Here’s my schedule of the past few days:
Friday: Hang out with people
Saturday: Start making enchiladas, hang out with people
Sunday: Finished enchiladas, people came over and we watched a lot of movies/hung out
Monday: Saw Constant Gardener and hung out
That’s sounds like a string of 4 good days if you ask me. The class I’m taking is still really fun and interesting. I think it’s fun mainly because the grammar stuff we’re talking about already makes lots of sense to me in english so it’s easy to carry it over to another language. Soon we will start having writing assignments which will further help the grammar rules to sink in.
There was a training meeting at work tonight. Was supposed to start at 7:30 and I kinda wandered in an hour late. Not really a big deal though because I didn’t really need to be there for anything important. I did bring some food though and I think it went over pretty well.
Now I either need to go home and chill or go home and fix my computer.
Did some laundry today. It’s hard to describe the joy of not having to go somewhere to do your laundry. So nice and convenient to just do it whenever. Walked around to some of the rummage sales today. It’s always interesting to see the prices on some things. At one place they wanted $50 for a set of pots and pans and $50 for a pressure cooker. Might as well go buy something new.
Got my enchiladas 2/3 done. I guess I just got tired of being in the kitchen so I’ll finish them up tomorrow. Found out an old friend of mine, Kevin, is getting married so I’ll be heading home on the 24th. Haven’t been back there for a while. It’ll be a little weird since everybody else is somewhere going to school. Up til now there’s always been somebody around. Maybe I’ll get to run into Matt, Ty and CJ.
So I’m on the phone with my brother tonight when I hear 2 very louds beep sorta noises. Turns out there’s a huge PA system in his dorm. When they’re making a public announcement it beeps twice before whoever starts talking. It sounded like he was talking to me from a department store. It was pretty funny. Turns out they were announcing the start of an auction for the 6 closest parking spots. Andy was trying to buy one so he could rent it out to people. That would have been awesome but he only had $13 in cash and they ended up all going for $20 some each.
As of today I am now the proud owner of a washer and dryer. That means no more trips to laundry mats and things of that nature. I’ll get to have clean clothes in the comfort of my own residence. Booyah Grandma!
Tomorrow is Friday. I like Friday. I have plans for buying Poolhall Junkies. Best Buy is selling it for cheap. In fact, I’m picking up a copy for Timmah tambien. Saturday the plan is to make some enchiladas and Sunday will be mega movie marathon in honor of Labor Day (the day I don’t go to work). I got two words for ya Mr. National Holiday - Right On!
