Turnin Back the Clock

In a lame attempt to be cool I’ve decided to take us back to 1996 and have What’s Hot and What’s Not.

Hot:
- Donald Miller’s latest book
- Okfest 2k5
- Serenity is finally out in theaters
- Grilled Cheese

Not:
- Chronic respiratory diseases
- Missing Okfest 2k5
- Gas prices
- Crazy weather

Home Theater

Tonight I had the pleasure of enjoying a movie in the home-made theater that Ed made. Ed’s one of the maintenance guys at work and is a bit of a movie lover like myself. It’s not exactly to his liking yet, but he has a nice CRT projector, surround sound and theater style seats. I think it’s a pretty nice setup the way it is, but Ed’s still wanting to improve.

Liz finally made it down to Florida today. I’m sure Harley and Dyna are glad to be out of the car. This weekend also starts Okfest 2k5. It should be yet another glorious reunion of Centre Morris as we all converge upon the German Village, act silly, get meat headaches and laugh until our sides hurt. I think Phil and Ed moved into their new house too. So there’ll be lots happening when I get over there.

Driving all day yesterday has left me tired and in want of sleep. I think I’m going to maybe read some stuff then call it a day.

Blowing stuff up

Drove to Iowa today. I was going to leave at a reasonable time in the morning but I ended up being awake uber-early so I got left a little after 6am. Met up with the guys and went shooting today, which was a lot of fun. Downside is theres something wrong with my Savage. In the middle of shooting it just quit working. It seems like the firing pin isn’t engaging. The shells are tight in the chamber and you hear the click and stuff. We’re hoping it’s nothing big. Something like there’s a little bit of something stuck in there or something. We’ll need to find Roger to find out for sure.

So we did that, and then got some Harris. Good pizza as always but we had a new waitress and she was taking FOREVER to get things to/for us. We felt kinda bad but then again it seemed like she could have been doing a better job. Oh well, I hope she learns the ropes soon.

Tomorrow’s the wedding and then maybe get my gun working afterwards.

Otra boda

I got the day off today and I’m heading to Iowa. Another wedding. Talked to Ty and we already got plans to shoot stuff. Let’s just say…I’m really looking forward to that. If you need a good laugh I have some options here for you, in order of hilarity.

  1. Mr. Show
  2. Arrested Development
  3. Achewood
  4. Get Crack Timmy to prank call people and make them believe they’re getting a chance to model for some upscale clothing outfit
  5. Turn your hamster into a fighting machine

Well, it is going on 5am so I think I’m gonna get some things together and head out before I have to deal with rush hour traffic.

Hamster?

Got one? Then go here. NOW.

Pizza King part II

As you might have read earlier, I had a Pizza King experience this summer that was far from pleasing. Yesterday I had round 2 and received more of what I would call “The Royal Treatment” than the “Royal Letdown”. Fortunately this has nothing to do with a Peter Gallager reference. So yeah, now I’m a Pizza King fan thanks to Mrs. Boltz.

Just finished watching the first season of Arrested Development and I’d recommend it to most of you out there. This is an awesome show. It’s funny, smart…and awesome.

Neighbors

I have some really cool neighbors. I sometimes wish I took better advantage of that. Tonight I got to hang out with some of them. We played some cards, hung out, ate some cheese dip, etc. There was a guy there I hadn’t met before. He seemed alright. Another one of the Environmental Science Masters people.

It’s always funny when you hear somebody say something and you feel like you can immediately assume other things about them. It’s like in Pulp Fiction when Vincent Vega is asked if he’s a Beetles fan or an Elvis fan. That’s one of those questions. Tonight the subject of a loud and crazy band was brought up and ACDC was given as an example of one. I think that means something - take it as you will. When you hear people’s responses/comments to things that are supposed to be on the edge you can almost immediately guess where they draw the line. Am I crazy for noticing/thinking about these kind of things?

After enjoying my burger and fries I thought that I should have taken a picture of it to show everyone. The burger is modeled after a McDonald’s big mac…except it’s actually big. Joe was complaining that I brought it over cause it smelled too good. There’s no way I was gonna eat it over at the grille cause people always make annoying comments.
Are you gonna eat that?
Man that’s huge!!
Who could actually eat that thing?!?
Why are you eating that? You’re just gonna give yourself a heart attack.
I wanna see you get your mouth around that.
There’s no way you’re gonna finish it.
So how many laps are you running tonight?

Seriously folks. Get a grip on life. Sometimes I feel like maybe I just need to remember that I work with people mostly in the 40+ age group. I guess at my spry young age of 24 doing things like eating 3000+ calories a day can be shocking. To me I’m thinking of back when I played football and probably consumed 6k-8k calories a day and was sick and tired of not being able to put any weight on. Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately those days are behind me now. Yes I realize eating like this 3x a day for weeks on end would not be healthy for me. I don’t do that though. Also, I don’t make comments about the things you’re eating so please mind your own business.

Looks like tomorrow will be another day of yard/garage sales. Who knows what treasures I might find.

Dots, The Grille, Martha

martha-and-chalupa.jpg
If you lived on the Deuce or The Brotherhood before 2001 then there’s a good chance you knew of and experienced the entity known as Dots. Dots was probably the first place I was ever a regular at. They were open 24hrs on weekends and we would try to go every week. Sometimes we’d even go more than once. It was the land of biscuits and gravy, teasers, breakfast specials, grilled cheese, and amazing patrons. It was a place not many knew about; even locals had never heard of this place. We had basically one rule about this place and that was you couldn’t go before midnight. Around 3:00am people would get kicked out of the bar down the street and come down for some food. That’s when things always got fun and interesting. There are many, many stories, some of which I half remember and others that have probably grown in size and grandeur since they’ve actually happened, that I could try to recount. I’m not going to do that though. Today is about Martha.

Martha was the waitress at Dots. Her mom was Dot. She was cool. She joked around with everybody. She knew our names, well at least what everybody called us, and remembered what we liked to eat. When kids would come in and give her guff every person in the place was ready to shit kick the little bugger out the door. It was a great place to be.

Unfortunately Dot’s went out of business. It was a sad day for all of us. Lucky for us that closing date got strung out over a few months so it wasn’t all of a sudden (like PJ’s). The cool thing is that we got the food services at our school to start up a Dot’s Diner Night in conjunction with Martha. That was freaking awesome. Then it sorta turned into a social event and most of us don’t really like going over there and dealing with all the ridiculous people, but we still have to go. The sad part is I’m the only person around that ever went. Everybody else has graduated and moved off to bigger and better things. I guess this is what happens when you never leave college.

So anyways, Martha started working at The Grille and has been there ever since. Today however, is Martha’s last day and she will be sorely missed. I had to go over today and get a TU burger with fries. I love those things. Fortunately I also was able to get a picture with Martha. If any of you guys want her email let me know and I’ll hook you up.

Warning to the World

I think I just got done laughing straight for like 2hrs…maybe even longer. I’m not talking about a haha, a funny, a teehee. I’m talking about laughing so hard I couldn’t talk or make noise. I’m talking about laughing so hard your face hurts, your sides hurt and your head starts to hurt. I was laughing so hard that at times I kinda forgot what I was laughing about. Now I’m tired, I feel a little disoriented and it’s almost like I just lost a few hours of my life….but it was to laughing so how bad can that be?

All I know is that I need more Mr. Show. Can I handle more right now? Obviously not. Maybe tomorrow or the next day or even the day after that. Definitely not now though. I need rest. I need to regroup. I need to recharge the laugh reserves.

Also made some beans, refried them and enjoyed a burrito tonight. Who would have known that Liz loves beans as much as I do?

Green Day

Last night I got to be entertained by Green Day, Jimmy Eats World and funny people at the Conseco Field House. Now that’s a fun time. One of Liz’s friends sold us some tickets for a decent price. It can be a lot of fun observing crowds…and how they react to people on stage. I loved how every time Billie Joe yelled out Indiana or Indianapolis he was sure to illicit a roar from the crowd. In fact after the first one I started laughing after every consequent one. Sometimes people wonder how riots are started or how the Nazis stayed in power. Well, all you have to do is go to a concert. The power of a microphone, guitars, political agendas and non-kid-friendly actions will sway the will of thousands.

But yeah, we had a great time. Even the annoying make-out couple finally got annoyed with the binocular-toting-smoking-super-fans. I’m not sure if they or the increasingly drunk girls to my left were more funny. Afterwards I got introduced to my very first episode of Mr. Show. If you haven’t seen this you’re truly missing out. How can you not laugh all day about turning yourself into a human siren, kissing the pan or hiding your illegal drugs in your shampoo? Seriously.

Finally got our very first writing assignment. It shouldn’t be too bad. I think tomorrow I’m gonna cook some beans for burritos….mmmmmmm…..burritos.
