I’m always amazed how little things can have so much impact. One of those things for me is exercising. I like to lift. I started doing this in June of 1995 because I had to. After 3.5 years of being forced to be at my highschool at 5am and things like that for lifting, cardio workouts, ladder workouts, agility workouts, running, etc, I got kinda used to it. It was just a way of life. Then I was done with football and didn’t do much physical at all for a whole semester. I was quite disgusted with myself. I lost most of my muscle tone and gained 10 lbs. So I busted my hump all summer and ‘got back to normal’. So since I’ve been out of high school I’ve continued to do the lifting thing. Cardio workouts are nearly as hard or insane as I used to make them, but they’re still important. This summer has sucked in the sense that I haven’t been able to exercise regularly like I would like to. For starters, the weightroom here is on summer hours which means I either get up way early and barely have enough time before I have to be at work, or I go immediately after work before they close. There have been many days where I haven’t had the free time immediately after work and this leaves me feeling frustrated after annoying days at work, I’m not nearly as strong as I used to be (partly because of my bum shoulders too) and I get noticeably more irritable (at least to myself).
Today I was able to get a good workout in and I feel so much better. It’s just amazing what that can do for you. It’s never “fun” while you’re doing it but you definitely feel better afterwards. So message of the day - Get off your butt and do something…you might just enjoy yourself.
Last night Toll and I got to help JRod move some stuff to his new place. It’s always a great time when the three of us get together. I didn’t even say any bad words moving it this time…that is until the alarm went off by the door - right into my ear. It hurt for a while. Then for some reason the back of the UHaul smelled like poop. Then we got to this house and met the landlord. His name is Eric. JRod says, “Hey these two guys are my friends, Ben and Ben.” Eric looks at us with this really goofy smile, giggles (HE GIGGLED!) and then says, “Hi Ben” in this really weird/creepy way. I don’t know what I think about this guy.
Then we went to our beloved Hardees where JRod bought us burgers and we chatted the night away until they closed. For some reason I was freaking tired so I had Toll drive us home, otherwise I might have gone off the road or something.
So today is another day where I’m the only person here at work. Hopefully it isn’t too crazy and maybe I’ll actually be able to work on something without getting interrupted every 10 minutes.
Much pain and sadness these days…Big Red is dead. Very, very dead. No more rides around the loop. No more trips to Wal-Mart. No more Waffle Steak runs. No more Upland-Bethleham trips. No more nothing. If you’re feeling as sad as I am, please go to Shorb’s site and contribute in any way you can.
In other news I was hanging out with Liz last night when she got a call that her soon-to-be new roommate may not be moving in. This is really pretty crappy but I’m really hoping something will work out here. Sometimes really weird/bad stuff happens and the end result is way better than what you were originally thinking of.
I also kinda killed the paper shredder yesterday while trying to shred up some old bank statements and stuff. However, this morning me and a couple screw drivers were able to take it apart and get it going again.
Swanny is also moved in now and I’ve been slowly working on getting things decorated. Feel free to stop on by to hang out sometime.
Forgot to mention I’m extremely impressed with the girl who worked the cheese counter. You’d tell her, “…yeah, I’d like 1lb of blah blah” or “how about 2lbs or blah blah”. She’d grab the huge block of whatever you wanted, eye ball it, then chop off a hunk. Now I don’t know how much of a cheese connoisseur you are, but cheeses have different densities so it’s not like one size weighs the same for all. I was telling Crack Timmy I need to find myself a woman who appreciates cheese like that and he suggested maybe introducing me to the counter girl sometime in the future. Too bad she’s about 16 years old.
Getting more and more things situated in the apartment. Was able to squeeze a couch and recliner into my room with my little TV in a central location for watching movies. After we get everything in their places I’ll have to start decorating with my posters and flags and whatnot.
Please don’t congratulate me for that one. I saw it on a sign in Muncie this morning on my way back from White Feather Farms with Crack. Besides a new play on words I was able to score some parmesan, havarti, muenster. We also swung by a farmer’s market at minnetrista (not sure if i spelled that right). Apparently it’s another extension of the massive Ball wealth where they have gardens and stuff. I ended up not getting anything cause I have no idea if I’ll be able to use it up anytime soon. Good morning if you ask me. Yesterday I was able to get everything moved into my apartment. Now I just have to situate everything and unpack boxes, take stock of what food I actually have and get some things up on the walls. Swanny is supposed to move in today as well so hopefully we’ll have stuff setup very soon.
Well, back to the coal mine for me. Gotta get stuff unpacked.
Another Friday, another not too-busy-at-work-day. Nate and I are going to get some TBell for lunch. Hopefully the lines aren’t too long. Toll ended up coming over yesterday and we got all the big stuff moved over. It was funny moving my huge TV cause Brent has one and has complained about it’s soooo heavy. Well Friedberg and I carried it down from the 3rd floor of Delta and it seemed kinda heavy to me, however, last night Toll and I just picked the thing up and walked it about 30 yards. It didn’t seem heavy at all. So tonight I gotta leave work early to get rid of the rest of those extra hours from Tuesday and hopefully I should get everything moved over before it gets dark. Then I’ll have to just kick back, relax, and prepare for my sensory overload when Crack Timmy and I go select cheese to buy tomorrow morning. I’m gonna be super stoked if they have fresh curds.
I should also be getting some internet hooked back up over the weekend and that will be nice. I should have a 3mbit connection now which constitutes super super downloads. It’ll be like in Spaceballs when they go plaid. Hopefully it won’t end up with me crashing head first into the front of the ship and denting my helmet.
I think I’ll grab a camera from work and maybe try to come up with something new to throw up for a picture. Maybe I can find one of my sweet fu manchu from earlier this summer or maybe I’ll be able to find something cool and random. I guess time will tell. Well this is Chalupa signing out. You stay classy San Diego.
Because of being able to count all of my time from Tuesday, I was able to jet at noon yesterday from work. Most of my morning was spent listening to a product rep from a company that makes remote controls/switches for rooms. They have stuff that’ll control lights, thermostat, screens, projectors, VCR’s, DVD’s, etc. Pretty much anything you want it to. It can be controlled from touch screens, a button control, web access, .exe apps, etc. They’re pretty nifty but we really don’t need them here.
Anyways, so after work I went down to Indy with Liz to help her look for furniture and then afterwards we went to this place called Hollywood Bar and Filmworks. It was a pretty sweet place. They basically have cheap tickets and then you’re expected to order something off the menu. It isn’t a normal kind of theater, you get these nice seats to sit in and you have a counter top thing in front of you to eat on. You get a server that comes by to get you refills, bring you food, etc. I really enjoyed it and would definitely go back some time. They also were advertising annual passes where you pay $40 and can come as many times as you want between Sunday and Thursday with up to 4 people. That’s what I call a deal. You’d still have to buy some food but if you live close by and are going to go more than 10 times in a year it’s really worth it.
Looks like I’ll finally be able to get completely moved. I now have keys to the place and can start moving in whenever. I’m thinking this time won’t take nearly as much time since I just have to carry stuff instead of packing and carrying. Oh, and Saturday I’ll be heading to White Feather Farms with Crack. Hopefully I can find some good stuff to buy.
…I’ve also decided it’s time for a picture change…any ideas?
If you didn’t know already there’s this huge fish tank right next to my desk that has contained various fish which Elaine and I decided were plotting against me. The would float there starring at me until I would look over and then they would swim away like nothing was happening…but I knew, oh I knew what was going on. I feel like my only advocate in that big ol tank was the pleco (Plecostomus). Yesterday we were cleaning out the tank and I had to save the big guy cause my boss was draining all the water out but had forgotten to take him out with the rest of the fish. He was flopping all over trying to found the deepest spot (about 2″ deep) to chill in. So my boss pulled him out and saved him. Then all the fish were left in a 5 gallon bucket without any aeration and they were all either dead or almost dead this morning…except for my buddy. So my boss tosses the different goldfish and dumps the water outside next to a tree. He’s telling me all the fish died, however, I ask about my buddy the pleco and my boss says, “what?! i totally forgot about him……………i think i dumped him outside!” So we run outside and he’s out there flopping on the dirt next to the tree. Gary brings him inside, takes him to the sink, rinses him off, gives him a couple shakes, then drops him back into the tank. He was definitely pissed and started swimming about vigorously to show us his indignation. He’s all cool and chill now though.
In other news I went to a conference today with the rest of my department and a couple other people and also presented at a session with Joe. It went really well. We had a huge turnout, a lot of people thanked us and told us they liked it, and about 1/3 of the people stayed behind to talk about the stuff amongst themselves after we were done. I’d call it a success. I also get to count all the hours I had to put in today since I’m hourly. That means a 12.5hr day which means I have to lose hours since they don’t’ like me working overtime. (this is where you would insert a smiley face)
Now that’s a compliment I’m definitely not afraid to proclaim to the world. That’s what Liz’s mom told me yesterday and I think it’s a pretty good one. You sometimes hear stuff like, “worth it’s weight in gold” and other similar ‘precious’ objects. However, since people don’t actually barter in mass quantities of sandwiches these days a sandwich is just a sandwich. Isn’t being well fed more desirable then having loads of money in your pocket? And who can really turn down a good sandwich? I know I can’t. A sandwich always stays the same while the value of our different colored metals we pull out of the ground changes from day to day. Look at how the price of gas varies week to week. Who know what I’ll have to pay for a sandwich in the year 2008. Let’s just say if I had no debt and money to blow I’d be looking to invest in sandwiches.
Lots of stuff happening lately. Thursday Liz came over and helped me for a long time getting stuff out of my apartment and I called on the muscles of Ben Toll to move big stuff. Friday Isaac came over to help me finish up and we feasted on more spicy enchiladas. Yesterday I was helping Liz paint and stuff in her new house. Today I’m trying to find my landlord to get stuff worked out on when exactly do I get out of my temporary living space so I can call the utility places and whatnot and get everything switched over. I currently have no hot water in this temp apartment so let’s just say my showers have been extremely short as of late. At least the air conditioning works. I’m thankful for that. The only other real bummer is having no phone or internet in this apartment. That means I come up here to work and doodle away on the vast entity call ‘the net’.
Well, I’m moving again. This thing seems to happen at least once every year - and surprise surprise I’ll be back into that place I lived for a bit last year and the year before. One might ask why I just haven’t stayed there. Last night Liz and Toll came over to help me move stuff. You guys rock. I should have everything out by tonight and then it’ll be off to Indy to help Liz with her new place.
It’s lookin to be another slow day at work. Yesterday Sam and I watched Minority Report in the afternoon to pass some time. Maybe we’ll have to find another film to watch today.
Sweet trailers I’ve recently watched:
Thumbsucker
Chronicles of Narnia
The Chumscrubber
Broken Flowers
