Found out today I will be taking another spanish class this semester. Talked to the prof and he’s getting me signed in. She starts tomorrow and now I gotta go buy a book. This time I’m taking a writing class. The prof was telling me a bit about it and it sounds pretty interesting. We’ll be having discussions in class about different things and then we’ll have a writing assignment where we essentially prove why we do certain things with the language. Nothing like a math proof or something like that - more along the lines of practicing grammar and justifying it. It’s sure to help the brain think more clearly about constructing sentences and stuff.
Movie night was a no-show. This is usually what tends to happen when school starts up again. I’m thinking of callin it off or maybe only having 1 official one a month or something. I really do have better things to do than sitting around waiting for people to show up. I’m not mad or anything, I just could have used that time a lot better doing something else.
It’s crazy crazy crazy around here. We got about 2k extra people running around, trying to replace equipment, people needing help with stuff, people making inquiries about things that should have been setup a month ago. I’m going to be glad when quitting time rolls around.
Got home a little while ago and you wouldn’t believe how full the parking lots are around here. The Morris and Swallow lots were pretty much full. The freshman have just arrived. Where are all the upper classmen supposed to park? I also had to park on the grass cause there wasn’t a single spot open here. That’s crazy. I’m pretty sure part of it is the fact that 4 guys just moved in above me and they all were parking right in front of my apartment. Oh well, I guess I’ll just start parking on the other side of the building again.
Mrs. Lofton - I’m sorry to tell you that I’m not getting married anytime soon. In fact, I’m not even engaged or dating somebody at this point in time. I would however, like to reiterate the fact that you have and probably forever will have the hostess with the mostess award for amazing hospitality and coolness.
Things I learned tonight:
- Louden Wainwright is Hal Karp on Undeclared (also saw him tonight in 40 Year Old Virgin) and wrote the theme song to MASH
- Apparently Boy Meets World is a better show then I ever realized
- Me and my movie thing isn’t that weird. It’s like those sports nut people that watch ESPN all the time and know stats about everything. I just like to watch movies and remember everything else I’ve seen that actor in.
I’m watching 25th Hour right now and some intern kid comes up to talk to Barry Pepper and all of a sudden I realize it’s Jesse (the guy that makes the silent velcro) from Garden State. So I check imdb and it confirms it. I feel cool.
Today we had some excitement at work. Some projectors got stolen out of some classrooms. Not too much we can do about it now. The worst part is that we’ll have rooms where the technology won’t be able to be used on the first day of class.
Well I think I’ll be able to sleep in tomorrow for a change. That’ll be cool.
It’s crazy to think that freshman will be getting here in the morning. It’s going to be insane on this campus. It’ll be a good day to walk cause there aren’t going to be many places to park. This is usually the weekend I try to disappear or at least stay inside.
I gave Matt a call back tonight. He had called me last night and I was an idiot and asked if I could just talk to him later. He sounded kinda weird and he rarely calls me. I should have just talked to him. Turns out his fiancee walked out on him and the wedding’s off. I feel like a real ass. I should’ve talked to him when he called me up. I know there’s been times when I’ve called up tons of people just needing somebody to talk to and none of them are around or they’re “too busy” at the moment. Now I’m one of those people.
Taking a spin on over to the Post Office to check my mail today during lunch and gas is going up 30 cents per gallon. So I quickly get over to the BP where it’s still only $2.49 (a price we would have laughed about 3 years ago) and filled up as much as I could. Then I make like Paul Revere and spread the word with the help of IM and my trusty cell phone. One of these days people are just going to stop driving their cars cause they can’t afford to.
Not that they didn’t before…but they officially do evermore so now. Tonight was my first trip since the middle of June since I was moving and stuff. I had been trying to eat up all my stockpiled stuff. Well, finally had to go get more food. Last time I was there they had no Aztec brand tortillas. I was a little perturbed and ended up going to Lance’s to get some. Well they still didn’t have them tonight and it kinda looks like they quit carrying them. They have this other brand called Mi Mama and they just look crappy. Haven’t tasted one but I’m just gonna go ahead and say that they won’t be up to par. Wal-Mart most definitely isn’t the best store but I’ve gone there cause it’s a one stop for lots of stuff. Me having to look elsewhere for tortillas does not make it a one stop shop anymore. They really need to get their act together.
Weekend trip to Columbus was fun as usual. I love that city. Always a good time. After we got back we were able to see Neville again. We even got him to stay the night and I got to hang out with him and Liz. I’ve noticed lately that there’s different circles of friends I have that seem to be a step above the rest. Neville and Liz would definitely be one of those upgraded ones. It’s just so much fun being around them. Same would go for some of the Columbus crowd and other friends I have around here. Oh, and on a side note, the month of January and I are officially on friendly terms now. I don’t know about February or April though…
I got to sorta meet a couple friends of Neville’s last night that I’ve known who they are and have seen them around, I’ve just never talked to them before. It’s always interesting meeting people like that. I usually have some kind of impression of them already. Sometimes those get changed and other times they just get reinforced.
Right now I just seem to be tired. That could have something to do with not sleeping much, staying up til almost 3 last night and then having to teach classes and stuff today. Lots of stuff didn’t work at the last minute as usual, but we got work-arounds going and I think we did alright. After tomorrow we’re done anyways, then all we have to worry about is getting things ready school to start.
Liz, Robby and Isaac made it over tonight for movies. Isaac brought over Drunken Master with him and it turned out to be freaking hilarious. There’s definitely some lines in there that will be used in the future. Afterwards we watched Stories of Lost Souls. Phil originally found it at Wal-Mart and told Liz and then she picked it up and then we watched it. A little weird and a little interesting. It’s a series of short films with a lot of famous actors/actresses in them.
Well I think the weather must be changing cause my shoulder started killing me halfway through the movies. Hopefully it’s cool by morning.
That’s right. I said it. And I mean it too. I just had two of the most amazing grilled cheese sandwiches ever to part my lips, get chewed by my molars and make it’s merry way to my belly. The only sad part is I’m now down to my last two pieces of bread. I really need to go out and buy some food.
Today’s been a pretty good day so far. This morning I had an hour long phone call where I got DyKnow stuff working server side and fixed the new client and everything. Just a couple more things to do, but I don’t have access to do it. I’ve been listening to a lot of RadioAsoell and right now I’m taking a 4hr lunch so I can head back later and then actually get some work done when there’s nobody there. Then I can also turn up my music and not be bothered.
Tomorrow Liz and I are heading to Funlumbus for a last minute visit of sorts. It should be good times. I should also be able to see Phil do his amazing selling of knives. I hear he starts talking and people start pulling out their wallets. Hopefully I don’t fall under his spell too. Other than that there’s a lot of chillin and hanging out on the menu.
Well, I think it’s high time I do some laundry with this long lunch.
Today was a pretty decent day.
- Everybody was back at work so I didn’t have to try and do a million things
- I actually got some important stuff done
- I got a phone call from Neville
- I got free lunch
- I got to talk for a while with the owner of the new Chinese restaurant (he apparently wishes to learn how to write computer viruses to totally screw everyone’s computer over)
- I made it out to the theater for a movie
- Got to hang out with Liz
- I got to see Neville
- Hung up two more posters in the living room
- DSL finally got itself situated and works
Yeah, so it’s now really late and I should be getting some sleep but I have internet access again and I have check blogs I haven’t read in 2 weeks and all that good stuff. Hopefully tomorrow goes well with training sessions and fixing computers and everything else. I’m hoping for low levels of unnecessary drama. Oh, and it looks like I’m heading to Funlumbus for some quick weekend fun.
