Had myself a nice long weekend. Tomorrow I get to head back to the ol job where I know there’s stuff waiting for me to do. I’m really glad I got out for a few days though. I was starting to get a bit annoyed with a few things. Made my way East to the fabled city of Funlumbus. I really like that town. I have visited it enough that I remember street names and where things are. Today was the first time I had ever been to Schmidt’s not on a Sunday for their buffet. Apparently they don’t have meat loaf and mashed potatoes during the week. Oh well, it was still good sausage. It’s really too bad nobody got a meat headache.
Soulman and I made some enchiladas and a batch of beans. We took the enchiladas to his home church to share. People said they liked them, but I screwed up the sauce. Too many onions and a bit too much oregano. When I cook stuff like that I never measure - I just throw stuff in. I was using some different sized pans and I think I just eye-balled it wrong. So I guess the saying, “Measure twice, cut once” doesn’t just apply to wood. Got to see Schnaps, Phil and Ed. Definitely good times. Soulman always asks me when I’m moving out to Funlumbus. I would really like to live there……I would just need a job and stuff. Maybe sometime in the future.
I met some more of Soulman and Ed’s friends. Some I had met before, I don’t think they all remembered me from last time I was there. Afterwards January, a girl from AZ, an asian guy and us all hung out at O’Reilly’s. I kept thinking of the car parts place. They definitely weren’t selling mufflers and oil filters.
I was also able to talk to a friend today about some important stuff after I got back home. One of those things that you don’t quite know how to bring up but just feel like something needs to be said. Not always easy, but I usually feel better about it afterwards.
Today I’d like to give a shout out to all those mothers of my friends. Some call me chapoola or chipotle, most expect me to look like a mestizo mexicano and they’ve usually heard “stories” about me. Although, I rarely get to hear exactly what stories.
Anyways, I guess I would more specifically like to say to Mrs. Woodrum and Mrs. Aukerman who I officially met and informed me they read my blog. Oh yeah, I should also mention that their children are now married together as well. Good ol Dave and Tara. They’ll be living in G-City soon and we’ll probably watch movies together sometime. It’ll be nice having more peers in the area.
Will it ever end? Probably not. I really don’t understand why people do this, but at the same time I sorta know what their reasoning is. So much hate and anger in the world. I might actually feel different about these kinds of attacks if they had a real plan. What’s gonna happen after they bomb things and kill people? Is there a plan of action to change the world and make it a better place? Is this going to solve their problems? Not really.
I was talking to my buddy Solomon today at work. Solomon is now a US citizen but he is originally from Africa (can’t remember which country at this moment). Solomon is against war and an advocate of peace. I agree with him. Peace is much better than dropping bombs on people. Their people too. It just makes them mad and continues the whole cycle. On the other hand I think I understand why bombs are dropped. It’s doing something. It’s striking back. Will this solve the problem? Maybe - if you kill everyone that first wronged you and somehow don’t piss anybody else off for killing said offenders. Peace costs a lot. Most of the cost comes from inside like swallowing your pride, compromising, etc - not your wallet. However, how long do you just stand there and let things happen to you, your friends, your family, your neighbors, your fellow countrymen, your fellow human beings? Jesus stood by and bore it all. I know I couldn’t do that. I’m just glad I don’t have to make these kinds of decisions.
Now here’s another movie that looks a bit interesting. Also, here’s a trailer link - sorry butros.
And here’s a few others:
Four Brothers
40 Year Old Virgin
Cronicas
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Domino
This year instead of sitting around Upland I went up to Holland and got to hang out with Justin, TJ and Matt. Lots of laughs, good food and good times. Unfortunately TJ didn’t get hooted at enough while on the boat. Too bad he missed out on the pirate ship full of girls staring at us.
Oh, and the latest of me putting some random person in an awkward situation….Matt had this funny story for us about finding “nipple lightening cream” in a gas station/convenience store while over in Asia. So we go to the grocery store to buy some food and of course when you get 4 guys together there’s going to be jokes made. We were in the mexican/ethnic isle when this girl walks between us and then just seems to be almost prancing around trying to get our attention. We were kinda ignoring her while trying to find some marinade sauce and I was looking for some seasoning. Matt was saying something about not being able to find it so I say, “I think it’s over there by the nipple lightening cream” in a somewhat loud voice while trying not to laugh. It just so happens at that very moment little miss energetic happens to try and squeeze between me and the seasoning and stops mid step when I say that with a shocked look on her face. All she could do was cough and scamper to the end of the isle. It was pretty funny. She stopped parading herself around us. Unfortunately Matt didn’t hear me when I said that but I most definitely relayed the story later.
