Spicy Enchiladas

Today I’m finishing up making my enchiladas. I’m calling them spicy cause I put a bunch of this ground up habañero stuff I bought in there along with a lot of cayenne, chili powder, etc. I’m hoping it’s actually going to be hot.

Last night we had some PJ’s fun. Oh, for those of you who were all wondering what that one chick’s tattoo was of - it’s a little bunny, playboy style. Their little kids were there last night and one kept crying and crying. I felt like I should do something but they aren’t my kids and I don’t know them or their mothers. Brent came with us though. I think it was a good send off for Sevier. Afterwards we played a round of frizolf and watched Orange County - another Jack Black classic.

So right now I’m waiting for that sauce to cool off so I won’t burn my hands when I start rolling the enchiladas.

Disappointment

Ever get yourself all fired up for something only to be let down? It’s happened to me. I bought these “supposedly super hot” spices off the internet. I got one bottle each of ground jalapeño, chipotle, hatch and habañero. I tried the hatch the other day and it was alright. Today I tried the chipotle and it was lame. I’m talking super lame. The jalapeño is going to be milder than the others. I guess I just need to try the habañero. I haven’t been all gung-ho about it cause I’ve had bad experiences with that little pepper in the past. Maybe he’s not so big and bad like I’m thinking. The stuff I’ve had before was this goopy concentrate stuff so I’m guessing this ground stuff won’t be quite so mighty. Time will tell. That’s all I can say.

Last night I was so tired. I went to bed early and everything. Maybe I’m getting old. Maybe I’ve just been staying up too late lately. Maybe I’m just ready for the weekend.

It’s looking like another PJ’s run tonight. Sevier is heading back home so I guess you might this a bit of a send off. Last night Toll and I hit up Rosie’s Little Italy and it rocked. I need to go back there sometime and I need to tell Walt I liked it.

DSL upgrade

So the other day I get my DSL bill and it’s almost $50 instead of being $20 some. That does not put a smile on my face. So I call them up and inquire. Apparently my 1 year was up (which I knew about) and I hadn’t re-up’d for another year. I didn’t mention them that they never called me after 11 months like they had promised to do. Also, they were wanting to charge me ridiculous ‘normal’ price. I informed ‘Mark’ that I see commercials for $14.99 about new customers and I really don’t see how they can keep any customers long term when they want to charge $50. Mark assures me they keep all their customers cause they just love it soooooo much. I then inform Mark about how I was promised 3 months free for switching from cable way back in April of ‘04. So eventually I get credited money on my account, I get my bill back down to the original price and I get upgraded from a 1.5mbit to a 3.0mbit connection. I didn’t feel wowed and all get out like I was supposed to be made to feel….I just felt satisfied that I wasn’t going to be paying $50. Oh yeah, I then got 2 more calls immediately afterwards from SBC people that was really annoying.

No Funlumbus this weekend…..but I’m still getting spicy enchiladas made. Guess I’ll just have to eat them here. I think this probably works out better in the long run cause there’s a lot I need to get done here with moving soon and whatnot.

Have I mentioned I saw The Island? That was definitely a rockin film. I would suggest getting out there to check it out. And while you’re at it, feel free to participate in Hell Week at The Voiz.

Business Trip

Well, I can officially say I’ve been on a business trip now. It wasn’t too bad either. I was also pleasantly surprised because my initial thoughts were that there probably wasn’t much for me to gain from going. I’m glad I went. Besides meeting fellow colleagues from other institutions and seeing how others are finding implementations for their own ideas and applications…..they also had some sweet snacks and food there. Definite bonus for a guy like me.

I also got to drive a ‘company car’. That was nice cause I didn’t have to put miles on my car or anything. However, I did make the mistake of trying to pass a car. With the cars I have owned it doesn’t matter if I’m going 35 or 70. If I want to pass someone I give it just a little gas and easily get around them. Well yesterday I was stuck behind a guy going 40 in a 55 or 60 zone. There’s a huge opening so I give it a little gas and nothing happens. I push some more and more til it’s basically floored and the engine goes, “WEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” but the car aint goin nowhere. So I sadly give up and stay behind slow people.

On the way down I was listening to some radio station and there was a commercial for an at home DNA test. At first I thought that it must be a joke - yet it sounded so serious at the same time. It talked about getting your kit, swabbing the inside of your mouth and that of the child, place the ’swabs’ in the test-tube containers and send the package off in the mail. Wow….that’s all I can say….Wow.

Unexpected Sunday

Well, as I said last night, Bendog was on his way. Definitely not planned, but awesome nonetheless. He and Norm came over and we chilled last night. Then this morning after church we went down to Indy to Epple’s house. There we met up with 007 and Scro. Chilled at the Epple’s for a while and then scored some free pizza at the new pizza place where Epple is probably going to be a manager.

Tomorrow I have to get up early and drive down to DePauw. It’ll be a very long day. Hopefully I’m not tired tomorrow.

Friday part 2

Every have one of those days where nothing goes as planned? After writing that last bit, not a single thing I had planned for the rest of my day actually happened. Some good things still happened though.
- I got a good lift in
- I got some more of that medicine for my shoulders into me
- I saw Isaac and got to hang out with him for a while
- Michael came over and we hung out with Tim and Jamin til 3 something in the AM

Today I got up early to help some friends move, saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which I mistakingly called ‘Willy Wonka’ to the ticket seller person - they knew what I was talking about though. Saw that with Mr and Mrs Hess. I always like hanging out with them. I think every time I see Crack I go on a rant about something. I also usually realize that afterwards, however, it’s always about something that most other people wouldn’t understand - like today was something SammyII related.

So after some Wonka action I swung home then headed over to Elwood’s for some stew, awesome bread and Stargate. Now I’m back home eagerly awaiting the arrival of one Bendopolis Gastright and Stormin Normin. The night is still young folks.

Long overdue

I feel like I’m long overdue for posting something here. Everyday something happens that would be cool to write about, but I’m never at a computer with some free time to actually do that.

Earlier this week I was wearing my ‘Fat Kids Are Harder To Kidnap’ shirt. I don’t know her last name, but I know she’s into salsa dancing - so I call her Gloria the salsa dancer…was doing some work and as she’s walking out she kinda starts laughing and says, “I like your shirt sir.” Sir? Why do people call me sir? I’m only 23 years old. It’s weird and I don’t like it. It happens at work, stores and in public. This is gonna take some getting used to.

Another night this week we were playing some frizolf as usual. This week there’s been an insane amount of kids running around cause there’s a lot of camps/conferences happening on campus. Luckily nobody grabbed one of our discs and walked off with it like a few weeks ago. However, on the last hole I bounced my disc off the post and into the door as somebody was walking in. It was a pretty sweet shot. Well Toll tosses his in and this girl is walking up towards the door. The disc rolls in front of her and she tenses all up and goes on her tip-toes to avoid getting close to it. She then announces, “I stop for frisbees!!” We were thinking…..ok. So we then go inside Morris to cut through the building instead of walking around and same girl is in the lobby with some other girl. They’re looking at us, smiling and looking. Then one of them asks, “Are you guys with our group?” expectingly…I just laughed. Toll informed them we weren’t and we promptly left. Oh 14 yr olds…..

Today is Friday and that’s a good thing. I got my spices in the mail that I ordered a while ago. I’m gonna make some enchiladas and try some of them out in the sauce. Kick up the heat factor a bit. Got a refill on the celebrex I got back in the fall for my shoulders and apparently my co-pay changed so I got to pay and extra $55. Not cool at all. I also found out it’s Mel’s birthday today. So I’m gonna get her some ice cream later after work. Lofton is supposed to be making his way down today. Hopefully that still works out. Well, lunch time is over and as usual gotta head back.

BK

Today Nathan and I got some BK for lunch and got to hang out a bit. It seems like I hardly see him anymore since we haven’t been roommates. If he didn’t let me do laundry at his place who knows how infrequently we’d run into each other.

Today Sam was telling me that he sorta got offered my job after he graduates. I guess it’s been decided that I’m getting bumped up after Joe leaves. I haven’t been actually or officially told that, but that’s what gets said. I’m not exactly sure how I feel about that. I really would not want to do my job and then try to do Joe’s too. That would not work at all. We either need somebody really good to take Joe’s spot or my spot. I think that could be hard to come by. It would also take a while for people to realize that my job had changed. That would probably be the worst part for me cause I would hate to try and turn people down when they needed help. Oh well, things’ll work out. I should just talk to my jefe about it.

I think I’m starting to figure out how I’ll be changing up my lifting style for the fall. I got something good going and we’ll have to see how it progresses.

hasta

Sounds like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays…

Sometimes I feel like Office Space really defines my life…then sometimes I don’t. I have to have seen that movie over 100 times. I’ll never forget when I first saw it. My senior year my buddy Jason and I would always go see a movie on Sunday afternoons. It was fun. Office Space was one of those movies.

Another good ‘movie night’. We watched Life Aquatic and Saved!. I always love introducing people to movies. Also got rid of some of that cake I made. Sara told me that Ted unofficially mentioned me in one of his sermons. I feel cool.

Looks like Neville and I will get to hang out before he jets for China. That should be a rockin time. Lately work kinda gets to me as of late. I think part of it is that there’s usually not much to be immediately done and hardly any customers. At least I’m not in there by myself all the time like last summer. That would get really boring.

Pizza King

So I finally went to Pizza King. Norm and I were getting his new computer setup last night and we went to the one on Tillotson where you order with the phones. We weren’t too impressed. The pizza was thin and wimpy, extremely greasy, and was very reminiscent of a poor quality frozen pizza. They even brought it out on cardboard. I’m guessing our waitress was about 18 years old. I’m not sure if she was trying to be funny or flirting with us. I’d have to say she wasn’t very successful in either respect.

Me and Norm got a couple good movies in and his computer running. He couldn’t find his Windows CD though so hopefully he’ll find a solution for that today. Today has been a Clint Eastwood marathon. Pale Rider, The Outlaw Josey Wales, and maybe Unforgiven later on.

I think I’ll make a cake today. If so there should be some around Mon night.
