Getting back into the swing of things with lifting. Hopefully in a couple weeks my arms won’t be squishy anymore. I met a guy yesterday in the weightroom. His name is Brian. I see him in there off and on. He’s from Marion and he’s a mechanic. I saw him with 275 on a bar and asked if he needed a spot cause he kept looking around the room with that look on his face. He told me, “Nah, not yet”. Ended up coming over and finding me later and asking for a spot.
Another successful marathon last night. This time we watched City of God and I Heart Huckabees. The later was a good follow up to the dark and heavy first. Luckily I was able to get some food made that I’m always promising certain people.
Oh, and if you didn’t know I cut off the goatee on a whim Saturday night. It was like 4″ or so. For some reason I just felt like it was time for something new. So I got 2 days of growth on my face now. We’ll have to see what I decide to do next.
I just got back from walking to the post office and past what I later found out was ’strawberry fest’ - a bunch of overweight people sitting around at the park eating fried/grilled foods while somebody’s singing country songs in the gazebo…shudder…shudder…I hate country music.
Yeah, so I already have my first three movies from Netflix. These guys rock. My first three are:
Kinsey
Closer
City of God
I’m really looking forward to this new wave of movie watching. Instead of spending lots of money going to theaters I could just wait for it to hit my mailbox…..hmmmm, I’m not sure if I really like that plan. Some things you just need to see in the theater. The other cool thing is you rate movies and it gives you suggestions based on what you’ve soon. I think I’ve rated 700 movies or so. The more I see, the more I can rate, the more suggestions they’ll give me to watch.
Well, I better get my stuff done so I’m all ready for some PJ’s tonight.
Joined up with netflix late last night. I’ve rated almost 600 movies so far. My first movies should be here tomorrow. I told Joe about it at work and his response was, “Took you long enough.” Apparently everybody knew I should have done this a long time ago and didn’t tell me.
Heading out again next week. This time for CJ’s wedding back in Iowa. Hopefully I can hit up Harris and get some good pizza while I’m there. Speaking of pizza, we are going to PJ’s tomorrow night so that’ll be a highlight in my weekend. Introduced Moser and Sevier to Magnolia tonight. That can be hard to process on your first go around.
It’s after 11pm, I have fans going and I’ve stripped down to the bare minimum clothing. It’s still hot. So I say bring on the cold beverages.
After watching Kill Bill the other night all I could think about was how demeaning it must have been for Bud to work as a bouncer and have the boss he did. That was only 4 years down the road too. It’s always amazing how fast people can go from riches to rags.
Finished reading A Wrinkle in Time for old times sake and started reading A Wind in the Door. These are good books.
It seems like I always come up with good ideas of stuff to talk about at work but then never remember any of that when I come home. Maybe it’s cause the AC is on at work.
Finally got back from PA. Now that has to be the best trip I’ve taken all year…mainly because it wasn’t by myself. For all that don’t know, the one and only world re-known and owner of Big Red, Nate Shorb, got married to none other than Miss Erika Checkeye - now Mrs. Erika Shorb. It was definately an awesome wedding. Besides getting to see Neville, Jamin, Nate, other Penthouse guys and meeting family from both sides, I also got to see Nate and Erika get married. I’ve been to a lot of weddings in the past few 3 years or so and it seems like there’s one major difference between them. It has something to do with the level of joy/happiness/something. I can’t really describe it. It’s sorta like quality - you know it when you see it. This wedding would have to be classified with one of those good ones. We also got to meet a bunch of Nate and Erika’s family. Erika’s parents even put us up for a night - quite awesome of them. Nate’s parents let us hang out at their house a lot and Mrs. Shorb fed us lots of booyeahlicious food. It was a little weird cause apparently everybody knew who I was from Nate’s documentary. I felt famous. Mark, Shorb’s brother-in-law, was hilarious and his wife was quite the host as well. Also got to hang out a bit with Erika’s brother, Wes. It was decided he needed to move in with Cheeks and then swing by my place for mexican food when he got hungry. I’d be ok with that. I really didn’t know Erika very well. I think I had only seen her twice, or maybe three times before the wedding. She’s an awesome person. The more I saw her and Shorb together, the more they just seemed like the perfect couple. Neville was talking about how it was almost impossible to imagine them as two separate people. I now know what he was talking about. So my hat goes off to you, Mr. and Mrs. Shorb. I wish you the best and am very happy for the both of you.
Other then that, not too much going on. We watched Kill Bill tonight for our mini-marathon. I’m hoping to maybe get some food prepared for next week’s.
I cut my hair today! Ok, so maybe that isn’t that big of a deal, but it was driving me nuts. It’s the longest my hair has been in 6yrs. A week and a half ago I got sunburned - really bad - like my mom said I got sun poisoning. This might be one of the worse times for me. Within 6hrs of getting burned my whole head was covered in blisters and it started peeling the very next day. I wish I had a picture of how red it was too. It was like a deep burgundy or the color of the seats in the Mitchell Theater. My head then proceeded to peel 3 times in the next 10 days. And this wasn’t just skin peeling. The first time it was thick and really really dark. Dark like the fake wood top on my desk. The second time it wasn’t too thick, but still at least 3 or 4 times thicker than most times. The third time it was just the worst areas and it was thick again like the first time. The hunks of skin would come off and they felt like when I rip the callouses off my hands that I get from lifting. We’re talking big pieces of skin here. Well I think my hair got to be about 3/8″ or 1/2″ - which is insane. So tonight I took the plunge and finally gave myself a haircut. Most of my head is peeling, but it’s that really thin, normal kind of peeling. I also have new freckles that I used to not have on top of my head. A couple of them are dark. That’s probably not a good thing.
So I guess the main question here is did I learn something. I would say yes and no. Has this sort of thing happened to me before? Yes, but not on my head. Will this happen to me again? Probably, but hopefully not in the near future. Did I learn anything? I’m gonna have to lean towards no on this one. At least I’m now armed with some new sunblock. Hopefully this’ll help for the immediate future.
Tomorrow I head down to KY and after a rendezvous at BenD’s house, we’re off to the far east of PA for Shorb’s wedding. It should be a rockin good time. Turns out he even has places for us to stay. Shorb’s such a great guy. Well, I should probably get some sleep.
