T minus some days til next wedding

Well, got home and everything…extremely tired of course, but I am functioning. My place is kind of a mess at the moment with mail strewn all over as I’ve opened it and left it to deal with later. I also never really unpacked from the last trip as I will be leaving soon again. The plan for tomorrow is to get off work, maybe go workout, get some food, make sure everything is ready to go, go to sleep, wake up, drive to Kansas. It’s gonna be like 11hrs according to RandMcNally.com but I’m also going to have to make stops to find food and just get out and move around. So I wouldn’t be surprised if it did take that long. Found out that Kat is quite close to my destination so the plan is to get left in the wee hours in the morning to go hang out with her first and then meet up with Bente later. Next weekend I get to run around in the woods, duck behind fallen trees and brush and shoot at people. In layman’s terms they call this paintballing. I was talking to Bleu the other day and he told me he’s not into that cause it’s too realistic and violence is over-glorified in this country. I agree with him that violence gets too much spotlight, however, I feel like I have a handle on reality in that department and still love to go shoot people in the woods. Maybe this has something to do with me growing up with guns, learning to shoot when I was 4, and getting a BB gun when I was 5. Maybe this also has something to do with me being taught to respect firearms and not be foolish and stupid with them. Or maybe it’s just the way I am.

Tomorrow we’re also having another Technology Workshop which means lots of setup and tear-down. They’re really good and informative though so I’m glad to help with them. We’re also working on surveying the entire faculty in reference to classroom technology, how we can improve, what they would like to see, what they don’t like, etc , etc. It’s been a lot of fun. I love just hanging out with some of the profs around here. They have so many interesting stories about places they’ve been, things they’ve seen, things they’re thinking about. They have so many perspectives on so many things that are so different from my worldview. This afternoon I was having a chat with Dan and Chin came walking by and decided to join the crowd. So afterwards I chatted with Chin and it was almost completely in spanish. I’d have to say I kinda surprised myself because I don’t really do that kind of stuff very often. I sometimes wish I was back in junior high or high school with those couple friends I could just randomly talk spanish to just to annoy teachers or people around us. Those were the days when practicing with people wasn’t really something I had to make an effort to do.

Wedding Adventures Part 1

Well, as usual, people like to get married and once again it turns out there’s a lot of weddings I’m supposed to go to this year. This past weekend was Josh’s wedding and I was in this one. Twas a lot of fun. Got to hang out with Josh, Matt, Tyler and even CJ a bit. Got to drink 5x the legal limit of Mt Dew while watching Star Wars and eating cheese curls, not cheesy poofs. Oh yeah, I also brought up the fact that I hate cheesy poofs to everybody in the parking lot of the restaurant where the rehearsal dinner was at. That was pretty funny cause all these years all my friends have always been chowing away at those things and I have usually abstained because they just don’t taste good. Apparently nobody realized. So when Tyler lamented that he was out of cheesy poofs, but his parents had an abundance of cheese curls they were all surprised to hear me announce I never liked cheesy poofs anyways.

It was good to be around Josh and Erin a bit because I wasn’t quite sure what I really thought of her. My only interaction with her prior to this past weekend had been back in 2002 I think….the summer I took that class up at Iowa and pseudo lived at Josh and CJ’s apartment. Anyways, Erin is cool and I think things’ll work out well between them.

The best man was supposed to be Brett, but unfortunately he isn’t around anymore. Brett was epileptic. When we were in high school he was at this party once and had a seizure and rolled into a campfire. The results weren’t that great, but luckily he survived. Well last year, Brett had a seizure and this time the outcome wasn’t so great. So Josh asked his then fiance if she would stand in for him. None of us really knew her too well and didn’t really know what to expect. Her name was Sarah and she ended up being awesome. She was definitely “one of the guys”. She also lifts regularly, likes to shoot guns (and knows more than just which end the bullet comes out), plays a lot of the same videogames we do, was getting annoyed with the giddy bridesmaids, etc, etc, etc. Brett had definitely found himself a winner and I applaud him in that respect.

So the wedding went pretty well, there were a few hiccups with the catering and stuff but nothing horrible. I was also really happy to be able to just spend time with the guys. I have made a lot of friends here from college and stuff. Some of them I’m much closer to in certain aspects then I’ll ever be with these guys, but it’s just not the same. These guys back home have history with me that can’t ever be gained elsewhere. We played 4 years of football together. We learned to drive cars. We shot up lots and lots and lots of stuff. We also lit off loads and loads of illegal fireworks….which is also something we did the other night. It’s already been decided that I will be picking up the next load on my way home for CJ’s wedding in June. I also need to make sure to take all my guns back so we can have a little fun with that as well.

The ride back home wasn’t too bad. There were tons of radio stations playing long blocks of the same band. I got to hear 6 Petty songs in a row. That rocked. Well now I get to try and not be tired and get stuff back on track at work all so I can take off on Thursday again and head to Kansas next weekend for yet another wedding.

Wedding

Heading out for a wedding tomorrow. Josh is getting married back home. I got it worked out so I only have to work 4.5hrs tomorrow. Then I get some lunch, show back up for my class then head out. It’ll be nice seeing everybody again. Next week I’ll sorta do the same thing only drive to Kansas instead. Lots of rain today which made my shoulder hurt long before the water actually started coming down or it was even cloudy outside. I decided to go lift anyways and was able to grab Patty Burke to spot me. Put up 250….nothing great but better than nothing. Finally did some dishes tonight. I had some stuff that had been sitting there since last Sunday when me and Shorb had spaghetti. It’s crazy how busyness can just eat up all your time so that you let dishes build up that long. Luckily I don’t create that many dirty dishes so it’s not like there were tons to do. Got the laundry done. Just need to pack some stuff, make sure I don’t forget things and fill up my car tomorrow.

Experiments

I’ve decided to try and keep my computer off at home when I’m not there to see how much money I save on the ol electricity bill. I’m actually not home a lot someday. If this isn’t very significant I’ll probably just keep leaving the ol beast on like I have for the past however many years.

Say Fat Mitch today and Leahtch and Josiah and Gump and the rest of that family. I’m pretty sure I see Fat Mitch more than Skinny Mitch. Fat was telling me it’s a pretty sure thing that Skinny is losing his job. That definitely sucks. Hopefully he can find something else soon.

Happy thoughts

Well, lots has been happening, but nothing too important. Made some spicy cheese dip on Friday that made my head sweat and my nose run. Now that’s good stuff. Especially poured all over a huge plate of fries i made in my deep fat fryer. Got to hang out with “the deuce” a bit over the weekend and met JRod at Red Sun for some delicious lunch. That was also followed up by me getting coraled into Mi Pueblo for some dinner. That place is ok. I’ve definately had better. However, I can’t really complain since I used to eat DC food…*shudder shudder*

Plan this week is to head out Thurs afternoon for Josh’s wedding. That ride won’t be so long but next week’s will. Next week I get to head to KS. I originally had a ride-along, but that aint happenin now. I’m thinking of leaving plenty early so I can get out stretch and do various other things to keep me from falling asleep and going crazy. I should especially know how not-fun it is to fall asleep while driving a vehicle.

Sorta getting back up to speed with lifting. Put up 230 on incline tonight…nothing spectacular. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with normal and decline. Last week I did a set with 250 for decline and felt great. Then bumped it up to 255 and my shoulder decided to talk to me through the medium of sharp stabbing pain. Stubborn me just finished all 5 anyways, but smart me decided not to do a 3rd set. Maybe someday I’ll be able to rep 300 again on decline and feel strong.

Oh, and another thing. Butros has encouraged me try and be positive on here cause so many people use blogs to be pissy and vent all their unvocalized frustrations at the world. So here’s an open invitation to punch me in the ear if I’m being negative about things. You might want to warn me beforehand though cause I have the tendency to punch back….just a reflex sorta thing.

Timmy Bread

Yes, that’s right. I made Timmy Bread. It was amazing. I even tweaked it just a tad…and in my humble opinion, it was better. I also didn’t have to take cash outta my pocket to obtain it. I also went to back to the eye doctor today and got me some better contacts. Here’s some dialogue:

Eye Girl: So are you liking those contacts?
Me: No
EG: No?
Me: Well, one of them tore on the way home when I first left here and the other ones were torn by yesterday. I don’t like em.
EG: Oh, ok. Well let me go get you some new ones.

She then runs out the room before I can tell her to stop.

EG: Here you go. You’ll just need to put..
Me: I don’t want those though. I don’t like em.
EG: Well if you just put these in the doctor can look at them and…
Me: But I don’t like them. I thought they were terrible I don’t want them.
EG: Well how about you put them in and have the doctor…
Me: I don’t want them. Why should I put them in when I’m not going to be buying them?
EG: Well the doctor can look at them and…
Me: How about we just wait cause I’m don’t want those.
EG: Well you need to have contacts in so the doctor can look at them.
Me: I have contacts in. They’re my old ones because I don’t like the other ones.

She finally went to go talk to the doctor to see if it was “ok” if I didn’t put those POS contacts in.

EG: Well, I talked to the doctor and he said you don’t have to put those in.
Like she could have made me?
EG: So I’m going to get some other ones….
FINALLY

…couple minutes later…
Doctor: So you didn’t like the eXtreme?
Me: Nope. They…
Doctor: Too flimsy? Tore easily? Didn’t stay in your eyes? Etc, Etc?
He just stood there and listed every single complaint I had of them. I’m wondering why he gives them out if he knows they’re crap.
Me: Uh, yeah. That pretty much sums them up.

Fireballs

While helping Dale get his computer updated today he offered me a fireball. I had to take him up on it. Who could pass up that cinnamon goodness? He then insists that I take one for the road and I had to oblige. While walking out of his office with him Dale says, “So if you’re ever having a fireball craving just come by my office and knock on my door. If I’m in there just say, “Yo Dale - I
need a fireball!” and I’ll understand. I’m a fireball addict myself.”

In chapel today I think Solomon had a very cool way of speaking today. I don’t think I remember anyone every doing something like that before. Later today he and I went to get some Taco Bell for lunch. We do that every once in a while. I always enjoy talking with him. He’s a pretty cool guy. He’s also pretty much the only faculty person that will sneak up behind me, slap the side of my head, and then run down the hall screaming, “HE’S GONNA KILL MEEEEEEEE!” down the hallway. If you don’t know who I’m talking about, picture a smal,l 40-something Ethiopian man about 5′6″ with the build of a cross country runner. Sometimes we talk about politics, religion, music, philosophical things. Other times we just talk about life. Today he even told me to give him a call next time I’m in Indy. Can’t say I’ve ever had another person from this job that’s an “adult”(not within 3yrs my age) ever tell me to give them a call to hangout.

Applebee’s

Tonight at Applebee’s I heard this from a couple tables over:
Customer: So is this any good?
Waitress: Which one?
Customer: This bad boy right here *taps menu*
Waitress: I don’t know
Customer: Oh, so you haven’t tried that one yet?
Waitress: Oh no, I don’t like meat.
Customer: You don’t like meat?! How can you work at a place like this and not eat meat!?
Waitress: I…uh….uh….well…..
Customer: Hey, I’m just kidding ya. You’re an awesome waitress…….

All I can say is, “Good save big guy.” Currently enjoying my Masters of Flamenco Guitar CD. It’s sort of a ‘various artists’ kind of CD featuring Sabicas in concert, Niño Ricardo in concert, Manolo de Huelva y Melchor de Marchena in concert. This is my first time giving it a listen and I’m enjoying it so far. Hopefully the trend continues.

There’s a blog I randomly stumbled upon a while back and randomly check. This guy has a stats thing on there that shows a map of the world with red dots located where people have hit his blog from. The size of the dots reflect the number of people from that location. I thought that was pretty sweet and tracked where it was coming from. Unfortunately the site hosting the service had people abusing the free-ness of it and had to quit letting any new people from using the service until they can figure out a way to support it. Crapola I say to that.

Today in my class the prof tried to say sheep but said ship instead. So we corrected him on it and he tried to say it correctly. Then, later on he tried to say sheet but it came out as shit. It was kinda funny but not hilarious. However, most of the people in the class just about died laughing. He quickly realized his mistake and then started telling us some stories about some of his language blunders. The guy can speak 5 languages. Anyways, he “kept” making a mistake just to be funny. I found it humorous but one person in the class did not….and that’s when I chuckled out loud.

Sunday

Yesterday got to hang out with Tara, Dave, Steve and Rachel a bit. Played Settlers of Catan for the first time and also at some of Rachel’s curry. I was expecting it to be a lot spicier, but it was very very tasty the way it was. Also went to the AAA’s Korean Explosion deal. I’m gonna have to start calling Mike “Jackie Chan” now. Today Shorb and I had some nice spaghetti with cheesy garlic bread. Other than that I’ve been playin some video games, watching movies and gettin laundry done. Yesterday Crack told me he’d take me to this White Feather Farm place where they have hundreds of different kinds of cheese. I can’t wait.

Liz-style confessions

  • I’ve realized I only do dishes about once a week cause I really don’t feel like putting forth the effort to wash a plate and fork anymore
  • I put american easy cheese on a banana cause I wondered what it would taste like
  • I somehow put my mesh shorts on backwards to go lift today and it was a bit awkward
  • Even though my eyes were uber-dilated yesterday and I could hardly see anything….I sorta liked wearing my shades everywhere. I had several people tell me they “liked my sunglasses” or “nice shades” or “sweet”. I even had somebody tell me I “freaked them out” cause they couldn’t see my eyes. That just made me laugh….but on the inside of course.
  • Having been to a military funeral before, and knowing many people in the service, I sometimes find it hard not to cry when hearing taps played
  • I ate my last two enchiladas about 10 min ago. Even though I can put on a darn good brave face….I shed a tiny tear on the inside. I already miss the little guys.
  • The crotch is starting to rip out of my two most favorite pairs of shorts with other varios holes starting to form in them….:(
  • In the past 5 weeks or so I’ve watched almost 7 seasons of Stargate SG-1. That’s about 110 hrs of TV shows!
  • I created another blog…..this one to upload pictures
