Almost time for classes

Well, classes start back up tomorrow and we’re nowhere near getting all those projects finished. Luckily our boss is understanding and doesn’t impose irrational deadlines on us. I enjoy that. Had a nice run tonight and might have picked up a lifting partner. My neighbor Chris has talked about wanting to try and get into shape so he’s gonna go lift with me tomorrow which so happens to be the opening day of the new weight room. As far as I know they don’t have any new stuff, it’s just in a new room. Hopefully it’s cool. It seems like it’s been a long time since I’ve properly lifted. Such a shame.

Got a couple more people coming to the Smith-fest. I think that makes 4. Also heard today that Kevin is going to be making a sequel to Clerks. The premise is that Dante and Randall are now 30 something, doing the same dead-end jobs and are realizing they need to grow up, move on and mature or something like that. Jay’s also out of rehab so maybe that’s a reason for Kevin to do the sequel.

Remodeling

Well, I’m not actually doing any ‘real’ work on the place, but Squatz moved out today so I spent the afternoon cleaning and re-arranging everything. Stuff doesn’t look too different except for my room. I setup my bed (I’ve had my mattress on the floor for over a year) and now it’s going to be weird not sleeping 7″ off the ground. Also put up a couple more flags and the rest of my posters in my room. I’m liking the way things look. I also have all this extra space now. My front door isn’t blocked anymore either so maybe i’ll start parking out front so my car doesn’t get coated in dust every time some certain people fly by.

Got to see Dusty today and talk to him a bit. Also got to try a Cheerwine. It’s sorta like Dr. Pepper with cherry. If you think that sounds like a southern beverage then you guessed right. Sara, Elaine’s roomate, had some. It was pretty good. They also have a life-size cardboard thingy of some nascar driver promoting the beverage that they’re giving to Gus gus. Elaine and I were talking today and it seems a lot of people live on 2nd street. I guess it’s the cool place to live.

Well it’s back to work tomorrow. There’s still tons for Joe and I to do. Gary told him not to bother working his tail off over the weekend. That was very cool cause Joe hasn’t had much time to spend with the family as of late. Plus, even if he had, he still wouldn’t have gotten everything done. I couldn’t help him cause I can’t work overtime since I’m hourly. It’ll definitely be cool to see a lot of the people back this week. There’ll be student workers back in the ETC which can be cool and not so cool. I’m a supervisor of sorts so the good workers are fun to deal with and the not-good workers aren’t so fun to deal with. I guess that’s life though.

Double Feature

Well, saw Garden State for the 3rd time and Napoleon Dynamite for the 5th time tonight. It was kind of annoying cause the two people I was with hadn’t seen ND before and the other people in the theater were quite loud and annoying.

It’s been so humid here it’s almost funny - wait a minute. No, it’s not funny at all. Went to helping hand this morning with Elaine and it was almost unbearable and we left around 8:45. So I broke down and turned the AC on when I got back. Amazing how much better I feel with less humidity in the apartment. Probably has something to do with the whole ‘I can breathe’ thing. Amazing how much oxygen affects your life.

Noticed some cool things in the movies. Like the opening credits for ND. The food on the plates coincide with what you see those people eat in the movie. Nachos are Kip, Steak is Rico, Corn Dog is Pedro, etc. Also, every time Napoleon looks at his watch it has a different date on it - in July. Please don’t think I’m being nitpicky. It’s just that I know what else is going on in the scene so my brain wanders to non-essential parts of the screen that aren’t directly tied to the plot. There’s usually interesting stuff going on in the background of movies that most people never notice. The good directors make sure everything is running correctly. Sometimes you can look at background stuff and it’s very obvious the director didn’t care.

It’s a couple of my friends birthdays today so I should probably shoot them some mail. Hopefully the weather’s nicer tomorrow.

Hourly

Being hourly can be so much cooler than salary. For instance, I can’t work this weekend on stuff that needs to get done cause then I’d be doing overtime and we wouldn’t want that. Walked my keys down to Upland Tire today so they can fix my starter problem. I’d do it myself, but I’ve never done anything to one of these cars and I don’t really care to run into any unexpected problems if ya know what I mean. And if you haven’t noticed, it’s freaking humid out. I really don’t mind insane temperatures as long as there’s some breeze but I really hate this humidity stuff.

Saw Mel today on my way back from lunch. That was cool. She said she might not be working in the ETC this year cause she’s working on getting a job at the Marion Hospital, and boy could they ever use some decent workers. Seems like just about everybody I know around here has some horror story about that hospital. Well, I probably won’t be going anywhere since I have no wheels at the moment. Probably just hang out around here for the weekend. I’m really craving a 3rd viewing of Garden State. That would be very cool.

Tip of the day: Don’t smile at old men on motorcycles in Upland cause they’ll rev their engine then keep driving around the block to drive by another time…or maybe 5 or 6.

Wes Anderson

Ok, I’ve been meaning to post this for a while and keep forgetting. Has anybody else noticed that Wes Anderson has a new movie coming out called The Life Aquatic? It has many actors in our other favorites like Royal Tenenbaums, Bottle Rocket and Rushmore. I really hope this guy doesn’t walk in front of a truck anytime soon.

Jogging

Recently I’ve taken up jogging around town again. When I got out of high school I would run 3 miles every day at 5pm after work. It was crazy hot and I don’t know how I did it. Well now I run 2 to 2.5 miles in about 25min or so. Nothing stellar, but better than walking. The main reason I’m out and about in this way is because the weight room has been shut down til school starts so I need to do something. My arms are getting slightly squishy and that’s no good.

Got to chill a bit with the TLoft. Also saw Crickit tonight. We need to have a PJ’s reunion. Booyah to the cheese bread is all I have to say. I think it’s gonna be kinda weird again with people around, but I’m definitely still looking forward to running into some old friends. Another BIG bonus this year is that the venerable JRod is living down in Indy. I’ll definitely have to go visit that kid.

Yeah, so after work today my car wouldn’t start. It’s got plenty of juice, just doesn’t start. Kinda weird. Came out of nowhere. Checked fuses and stuff. Maybe it’s the starter. I’ve only had this car since end of May and have never worked on one before. That’s one reason to miss the Impala. It was huge, lots and lots of engine compartment space, etc. Oh well. I guess I’ll bite the ol bullet and call somebody tomorrow.

Getting closer to the Kevin Smith fest. If you read this and are interested definitely post a comment or email me if you’re planning on coming.

Cool Boss

Yeah, that’s right. My jefe rules. I talked to him today about my tax problems so he sits down and writes an email to some people to try and get it handled. The whole situation isn’t over yet, but my boss definately carries some weight at this institution. So three cheers for Gary…and then some if you got voice left.

Something I forgot to share about was when I was enjoying a delicious gyro yesterday some of the waitresses came over to the adjacent table and sang happy birthday to somebody. When they were down a very elderly looking woman walked up to them and asked if they could sing to her grandson cause it was his birthday too. The waitresses obviously didn’t want to do that at all and came up with lamest excuses. They said, “oh this is our friend” “well we did it cause we know they’re coming back” “well, we’re not supposed to” blah blah blah. They made donkey’s buttocks out of themselves. Felt kinda bad for the kid cause he was standing right there while his grandma was being told he wasn’t important enough to be sung to.

Well, if you read the movie blog you’d know that I saw Garden State again. It definitely rocked. We were thinking of making it a double feature and seeing Napoleon Dynamite immediately afterwards but Toll had to go make an appearance somewhere. I think they call them press junkits or something. So go see the movie cause it’ll be amazing.

Work is definitely getting kind of crazy. Today we found out that the 10 new PCs we ordered showed up as towers and not slimline desktops. This may not sound too bad except the carts we had ready for these weren’t designed for the much bigger cases. So Joe and I scrambled, put our heads together and figured out how to make it work. Well, actually he did most of the figuring. I just found a way to make a few fit on some of the carts. Anyways, still nowhere near finished with all the installs kind of like last year. I hope we don’t have many late crazy nights like last year.

Still getting excited about the prospect of seeing new faces. I hear the venerable Mr. Lofton will be moving in soon. He and the Butch will have to come over for a film or two. Who knows, maybe stalker chick will have a chance to chat with Ralph and his protective roommate once again.

Poo and things

So a while back I got this letter saying I owed more money for taxes. Long story short it’s Taylor’s fault at this moment according to my mom, who is an accountant, and her CPA friends. That’s enough proof for me. So right now I’m trying to formulate a way to bring my concerns to the payroll department in the correct manner and still get results. Very frustrating.

On a cooler note, I experienced my first gyro today and it was quite tasty. I would suggest trying one if you’ve never had one before. Work went pretty well today. For some reason I was just really tired. Walked to work today. That was kind of nice. I’d do it more often but I usually putz around til it’s too late to walk. Maybe I just need to plan better. Tomorrow should be much cooler cause I’m going to go see Garden State for viewing #2. Also just found out it’s playing in Muncie now so I don’t have to drive all the way to Indy - even though I love Castleton. Well this is all the effort I’m putting forth into typing tonight cause I’ve been looking at/working on/fixing computer all freaking day.

Gmail Invites

Ok, I don’t know why, but I have a bunch of Gmail invites. If you want an account let me know and I’ll get ya hooked up. Well, today was the first day of the Technology for Teachers Conference, the first day I wore my free pair of Eastland shoes, the first day I had to dress up again for work, the first day I tried one of Mrs. Ehresman’s pickles and…..stuff. However, it was the second day in a row that I’ve gone jogging. This whole not being able to lift cause the weightroom is closed is starting to get to me. That probably sounds weird, but it’s something I’m used to doing. I’ll be excited when it does finally open up cause I can do cardio stuff in there. All this running on streets is really hard on my knees.

I was thinking of watching a movie tonight but I think I’ll do something more constructive than stare at the TV tonight. I got this book called The Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice or something like that. It seems pretty good. The first couple chapters are really easy stuff. I’m going through and doing all the exercises and then translating the exercises into english just for the practice. That sounded cool until I realized that included exercises A through S or something like that. Lots and lots of busy work but it’s probably good for me.

Oh, also tentatively having a Kevin Smith marathon Labor Day weekend. I’m thinking I’ll try making some tamales that weekend too. So if you wanna come let me know. Tara and I were thinking maybe doing a Friday night and Saturday morning thing and whoever would want could crash on a couch or whatever.

No cell phone

Today after church Elaine and I were supposed to call Liz and meet her for lunch but we both forgot to bring the number and we don’t have cell phones so we were kinda in a pickle. But then this number popped into my head. It was sorta right. The only problem being ’sorta right’ doesn’t get you connected over telephone lines. So after we found out the number was wrong we called this other Boltz in the phone book that Elaine thought was related to her. No dice there either. So then we tried her sister but they were home. So then we decided to try and find her house. Luckily we made it and were able to get some good eats. I also got to meet Liz’s mom. She seemed pretty cool and knew lots of stuff about me already. Unfortunately I couldn’t reciprocate the familiarity. Oh well. It’s been pseudo-decided that Elaine, Butch and myself are going to go see Garden State. They haven’t seen it yet and I of course need to see it a 2nd time. The movie is definitely in my top 10 for the year. I should add it to my favorites list too.

Today I also had to create my presentation materials for the Technology for Teachers Conference tomorrow and Tuesday. I should’ve made them a while ago, but that doesn’t exactly always work out. Well, finally got those done. Did a little jogging today. I think that’s only the 2nd or 3rd time since I was having asthma problems a few weeks ago. It’s always surprising how much that takes out of you. All because of chemicals being used to clean at work this time. Oh well, hopefully my arch-nemesis doesn’t rear its ugly head for a while longer.

It’s kinda cool having people come back. Upland is really nice and quaint when all the students are gone. It’s nice cause there always seem to be a lot of the students that annoy me. However, there are a lot of the students I’m friends with too so it balances out. It’s also nice that some of my friends are back or will be back shortly. It’s always nice to see them again and hang out and stuff. Speaking of hanging out, watched The Journey of Natty Gann tonight…and it still rocks. Just like Flight of the Navigator.

Well hopefully tomorrow I speak clearly and all the people in my class can walk away with a new and clear understanding of how to burn CDs. And hopefully all the computers still work. They’ve been doing some weird things as of late with Altirus and whatnot.

P.S. - Found a recipe for strawberry tamales tonight
